Shinsekai yori
Content: 7/10 (had the right ideas and intents (useful criticisms of society) but ultimately wasted because of the lack of convincing opposition, questionable setting and goddamn timeskips, characters that are just as the plot demands them to be, pacing is consistent in each contained timeskip (just handwave with it), cheapest ending ever (just shows how incompetent adults are), i sense a strawman)

Animation and Sound: 8/10 (there are a few questionable scenes and certain track is repeated so many times but it's all great and enhances the experience, quality is lacking sometimes, not quite at Ghibli level)

Value: 6/10 (not enough to care, few memorable scenes to rewatch (ep 8 anyone? ironically the worst one to advertise), nothing to learn really (just a few jabs because of uneven competence))

Enjoyment: 5/10 (it doesn't care about audience like Texhnolyze but it has no unique quality to praise or remember like the latter. It unfortunately is less convincing that Psycho Pass ... and Psycho Pass has a very questionable and handwaved setting so I dropped it.

had my hopes up and it partially lived up to the hype but nothing was ever convincing, it says a lot when the best character in the show is the "main antagonist" instead of the "MC" ... I still don't understand why the adults in this show are so incompetent and useless that the setting, based on the MC's perspective, is FAR WORSE than Psycho-pass. No wonder they had to resort to mind-control and maintain it regularly and rigorously on minors. This is a 1000+ year timeskip AFTER 21st century and society retrogaded to the point they improve??? How the fuck are some aspects of their life hi-tech, low-tech, but with none of the mechanisms necessary to sustain it? Heck, why are the main cast wearing 21st century clothing?

This is a dystopia but I expect that whatever POV and setting are used, they stays consistent.
My immersion started breaking by ep 5 and was completely destroyed in ep 14 (when I realized she is delusional and the story in this anime is the story written by the adult self of the MC).
It's a meta-novel so what we saw might not be what actually happened in the first place after all.
(There's mind-control and she's delusional. The society wants the truth concealed. Connect the dots.)

Heck, I'd go as far and say that, based on her experiences, this cannot be relied on. This is her perspective as a member of the winners in a completely one-sided war where the losers should have, not only won, but become the next dominant species because of how useless the adults are compared to Squealer.

This should be a show that I am happy about because the story/content comes before everything else. However, without immersion and anything to keep me interested (aside from Squealer and the outside the district), there is no reason for me to care about the events.

It's just like watching a historical film in highschool. It's educational and is based on the winner's perspective but, at the end of class, everything you experienced just goes inside a black hole never to be remembered again.

Sigh, what a waste.
7 TV 25 wasted potential because the world is shown through the lens of kids instead of Squealer's, not a documentary or narration of MC but a "historical document" of some past written by and for the winners R
