Higurashi no Naku Koro ni has a lot of similar aspects to this series, such as; a new boy from the city in a small rural town, yet there is possibly more to compare Shiki to in Umineko no Naku Koro Ni - same maker as Higurashi, and possibly sequelesque.
Supernatural aspect in both series' are made obvious from the begining (even the opening), which leads to the assumption unworldly individuals are involved.
There is a clear mystery element; creepy, mysterious and agonistic characters (mainly girls) and luxary, stand-out-houses holding harbouring aristocratic people.
