After a fateful encounter, the main character gets attracted to the world of music and now is totally obsess with their world's gimmicks (band girls/idols). Main difference between those 2 shows is bang dream is focused on bands of girls (normal bands, not idol groups.. except pastel*palettes), first season being focused only on Poppin'Party, while Love Live! Nijigasaki is focused on solo idols.
Both animes are adaptations from their respective "rhythmic" mobile games
Also both of them have a Kasumi, i think that's a very important detail
