Some random boring facts about me:
~ I'm really bad at writing about myself.
~ I'm a mix of Chinese/Japanese, but I was raised in Canada.
~ I'm currently studying pharmacy and intend to work as a clinical pharmacist in the future. I love helping others and seeing the look on a happy person's face thanks to what I've done for them is what makes me smile the most.
~ I love traveling with a passion! Some of my favourite places in the world are Takayama (Japan), Kyoto (Japan), Florence (Italy), Vienna (Austria), and Bangkok (Thailand).
~ My taste in music is extremely varied. I'll listen to pretty much anything (except metal) and I go through phases. Some of the artists I don't think I'll ever stop loving include: Nishino Kana, Kalafina, Taylor Swift, and Taeyeon.
~ I also love classical music and my favourite composer is Chopin. c:
~ I started playing piano when I was 8, but I sadly don't have much time for it now.
~ I'm also a singer and my vocal range is bass/baritone. It makes me sad that most popular male vocalists nowadays are tenors. I can't sing that high (comfortably). :c
~ I used to play a lot of sports competitively in middle/high school including basketball, volleyball, and ping pong. Now all I do is weightlifting.
~ I have extremely high expectations when it comes to movies and my favourite genres are Thriller and Sci-fi. My favourite movies/movie franchises include: Star Wars, Shutter Island, Inception, Terminator, The Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, and Back to the Future.
~ I've always been a fan of the FPS genre of games (especially the Battlefield franchise), but now all I play is League of Legends. Oh, and I will buy a Pokémon game from each generation that comes out, even if it means buying a new game system.
~ I'm also a HUGE fan of the Tales series and I love its action RPG style, although I haven't played that many of its titles (only Symphonia, Abyss, Xillia, and Zesteria).
~ Steins;Gate was the series that REALLY got me into anime.
~ I think it's really cool how people put so much effort into cosplaying and I wish I had the dedication to do the same.
~ I love good beer and drink it almost entirely for the taste.
~ I'm a bit of a foodie. I love trying all kinds of food, but I especially love Japanese and Middle-Eastern cuisine.
~ I get obsessed over things REALLY easily and I know it's an unhealthy habit. :c
If you play Reague of Regend, add me on NA! My IGN is Zaphkiel. Just let me know that you're from MAL after you add me.

Pretentious hipster rating criteria: Fuck it, it's so much easier to rate subjectively.
Plot: /10
This one is pretty easy to explain. Was the story interesting or not? Was it plausible and did it make sense? While I welcome creativity and imaginative anime, sometimes they can get out of hand and become completely absurd. I put a lot of value on plot, since it's the aspect that dictates whether or not I will actually sit down and finish an anime. Execution: /10
An anime can have an original, refreshing, or truly intriguing concept, only to end up falling flat on its face in its execution. Whether or not an anime has plot holes plays a big role in my judgement. In addition, I put a lot of emphasis on the effectiveness of the protagonist. But this depends on the nature of the anime. For example, if the writers meant for the audience to sympathize with the protagonist, having the protagonist playing a role as a mere observer is a big no-no. Atmosphere: /5
Pretty self-explanatory. For example, a thriller must consistently maintain an air of mystery and suspense. While comic relief is sometimes welcome in thriller anime, the light-hearted mood must not drag on for too long. Pacing: /5
How well does the plot flow? Do the events feel rushed or progress in a painfully slow pace? Dialogue: /5
Strangely enough, what the characters say actually plays a significant role in my personal enjoyment of an anime. Since I mostly watch dubs, this can largely dependent on the faithfulness of the translation itself, so I don't put much emphasis on dialogue. For philosophical anime, dialogue plays a HUGE role. Themes/Messages: /10
Were there any themes present in the anime? How well did they relate to plot itself, or were they simply forced into the anime for the sake of catering to the more serious anime watcher? Also, although this is highly subjective, I put a lot of value on whether or not I can actually take something away from the anime - whether or not it could potentially impact the decisions I make in my life. Ending: /5
Since inconclusive/open-ended endings are so abundant, this rating mostly has to with whether or not the ending fits the anime.
CHARACTER: /25
Character Personalities: /10
Were the characters likable or not? Were they unique, or did they all conform to already established stereotypes (ie. tsunderes or kuuderes). One issue I have with some anime is that characters don't remain consistent with their established personalities. For example, a typically rational character suddenly making an extremely rash decision is a huge red light - unless, of course, there is something that can explain the personality shift. Development: /10
Did the characters change as the story progresses? Or course, this once again depends on the nature of the anime. Character development must match the plot - if the character goes through a lot, their personality should change accordingly. Character Relatability: /5
Yes, I know relatability isn't a word. Do the characters face challenges that we, the audience, may find ourselves dealing with at some point in our lives? Does the character handle the issue in a way that, by our judgement, seems rational?
AESTHETIC VALUES: /10
Art/Animation: /5
How well is the show animated? Are there any animation errors (ie. adding an extra finger)? Creativity in terms of artistic style is always welcome. Sound/Music: /5
How well did the music, including the opening(s) and ending(s), establish mood/atmosphere? Did the voice actors/actresses succeed in remaining consistent with their characters' personalities and were they able to effectively convey a range of emotions?
ENJOYMENT: /15
Personal Enjoyment: /5
Simply put, did I enjoy watching the anime? Did I feel the need to marathon through it, or did finishing it seem like a chore? This is the one of the only parts of my criteria that is entirely subjective. Rewatchability: /5
Would I, personally, watch the anime again? 5 being I wouldn't mind rewatching the anime a week later, and 1 being I would never even consider it. Appeal: /5
Would the anime appeal to a diverse audience? Would I recommend it to my friends? Unfortunately, this does depend on the genre of the show and whether or not it has excessive violence or mature/sexual themes.
TOTAL: /100
The total divided by 10 will be the score on my anime list. Scores ending in 1 to 4 will be rounded down, and scores ending in 5 to 9 will be rounded up.
omg you're in pharm! grats LOL i always hear how crazily intense and hard it is from my friends. that also explains why you enjoyed when breathe becomes air hahaha
and they're required readings to certain profs, but i somehow never end up in their classes lol. and i'm not about to read depressing colonial text during my free time. i'm a third year (: but i decided to stretch it out a little and take it easy. it feels like these are the last couple of years i really get to live life, so i'm gonna get a little wild before sending out hundreds of insincere resumes and job hunt to death lmao.
ghosted again ;;;; how's it going with you lately?
and i don't think i read as much as a typical literature student should read. haven't even touched heart of darkness or any chekhov or tolstoy or woolf. the list just goes on. i half feel terrible about it, i half don't give two shits and continues to read trashy manga instead LMAO. what did/do you study?
yeah, he was really debating that question for the latter half of his life, regarding what 'living' really means. i don't think he truly found it though, but simply accepted it for what it is and to live by what feels right in the moment. but i agree, i think it's better to avoid the harmful experiments and treatments.
ooh, i definitely will! thanks for the rec (: what else do you like to read?
i'm about 2/3 done the book, and i think it's great. kalaithi expresses his thoughts so intricately. and ya got all these authors musing about death/life, but here's one who lived side by side with it for half his life and then confronted it head on. it's hell of a lot more refreshing than most ~all star american classic novels~

It is really a respected profession there with good pay but here iss....er- ( ̄▽ ̄) people dun really think highly of it. Coz unlike here, pharmacists dun really interact eh. MOST are behind, just hiding in their offices and pharmacy aides are the ones taking orders. We are trying to change that outlook though.
