| For me, it's both a yes and no answer. Yes, because after watching the VN's and reading the manga, it's easy to see how laughably poor the anime adaption was in comparison. It's like eating a $10 sirloin at a low brow chain restaurant, before trying a $60 ribeye from a nice steakhouse. I also say no, because for someone like me, having been introduced to the series through the anime; if it were truly that awful, I would have never continued the series. The anime was at least good enough for me, as a first time viewer, to want to seek closure to the story, as it only covers the first half. |

Probably average. If you're someone that read the manga or VN's first, then the anime will be bad. Laughably bad. Like "the fuck was DEEN thinking with this shit" bad. If you're new to the series I'd say skip the anime, and read the manga or VN's instead. Several of them were on YT. |

I'm really interested in this series because higurashi is one of my favourite anime ever. But if it's such a disappointing adaption, i'd rather play the visual novels tbh. I could buy them on steam right now, i think i'll chose doing that, and then later check out of the anime. i've played a few visual novels so i think i'll enjoy it. |

I bought the manga volumes, because the art is great, and I can read through those faster than the VN's. They have the same content. Can't really go wrong with either. Though the VN's appear to be much less expensive. |
| Well I read the VN and manga already and decided to take a look at the anime, and the result is as horrendous as expected. That said, given an enormous amount of words in the source material (950k as I heard), it's understandable that Deen had to trim off a lot of detail. If only they could double the amount of length for each episode, then yeah maybe the anime will success, yet that will also deal a fatal blow to their finances. Long story short, they need a more capable studio or more budget to adapt the story properly. |
| The anime is a utter disgrace and dumpster fire to the Visual Novel. The VN is a borderline masterpiece imo. The manga adaptation is pretty damn good. Read that if you don't want to do the VN |
