Mushoku Tensei II: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu Part 2

Following the faceless god Hitogami's advice seems to have worked wonders for Rudeus Greyrat. After enrolling into the University of Magic as he was told, Rudeus reunites with his childhood friend Sylphiette, who put a valiant effort into curing his condition. The two grow ever closer together and decide to host a wedding party, inviting the friends they have made over the years to announce and formalize their relationship.

For all his recent blessings, however, Rudeus' troubles are far from over. The research he is helping Shizuka Nanahoshi conduct hits a bottleneck, sending her into a deep slump much like he experienced in his previous life. Furthermore, a letter from his father, Paul, brings complications to Rudeus' relationships, and Sylphiette still knows next to nothing about his real background. In the face of these issues, Rudeus will have to apply the lessons he has learned in this new world to navigate through the challenges that come with living a life to its fullest.

Preliminary (8/12 eps)

I mean, if you enjoyed Mushoku Tensei enough to have arrived at this season and you're still looking for reviews, I assume you are an anime-only viewer and you're wondering if this season is any good since the last season might or might not have made it seem like the direction of the show changed a bit compared to the first season.

So here's my 2 cents - Yes, keep watching and you'll thank me for it in the future.

This story has always been about Rudeus' second chance at life and one of the most unique and greatest things about this show is that it brings ... the viewers along the entire journey. Things might seem slow at times, but the big plot has always been there and things will eventually come together (My guess would be in the next season judging by the pacing), and you'll see where Rudeus fits in the puzzle.

As long as the story remains faithful to the original material, ez 8/10+

I have mixed feelings about this second part of the Mushoku Tensei season 2 and a lot of it has to do with decisions taken by the team rather than the story itself.

I haven't written many reviews but felt the need to address this as I found it a bit strange.

As we all know, season 1 was mainly known for 3 things. In part 1 we discover this brand new world with our MC and the magic it contains. Throughout his growth in this second life we are constantly introduced to new things in this world and see our MC create all ... of these new bonds he hadn't been able to in his previous life. That along with his love for learning allows us to learn more about the power system, the world and even some of its history, with a dash of past life trauma from time to time being resolved.

In comes turning point and one of the biggest shifts in the series happen. The world as we know it turns upside down and all of a sudden we are on the other side of the map, alone (with Eris) and we meet this new character we have been told we should fear. That along with the introduction of the man god sets up what will come to be an exciting second half of the season where the mc continues to grow, as a mage and a man and this is where we get some of the best world building as well as some more lore and great character development for our main cast. We get one of my favorite scenes in the reunion with his father and have a big change of perspective. All of a sudden, this doesn't feel like a dream or a videogame anymore, it's for real now. All of the people we've met, the bonds we've made, lead to this point and we have responsibility now.

Turning point 3 or Eris leaving don't play into the point I'm trying to make, but chef's kiss.

Now comes in season 2 part 1 and we have our heat broken mage. The Rudy we've come to love (and hate for some) is at his lowest since coming to this new life and we get to witness him starting from zero in a sense. Up to now he's always had people who know him around him, but now he's on his own and people only know what he shows them. It is here that we get some of the best scenes with Sara, big bro Soldat and all of these great characters who each influence Rudy in their own way.

Now once we come back to the university comes the first slow down in pace. A change of pace which is justifiable as we have been on the move for so long. This also sets up a long awaited reunion with Sylphie and introduces us to a great new cast and setting. We get the romance with Sylphie which in my opinion was a bit dragged but the pay off was great and we had a lot going on to keep us a bit busy through it all.

Now notice how one thing I haven't spoken of is the animation and directing. Through all of this one thing that has consistently been a theme is the great direction of it all. It feels... natural, the world flows. The characters each have their own thoughts and everything that happens seem to make sense. Although they skip through some of the LN's content, it doesn't feel rushed, the attention to care is there. And most of this is what is to be expected of an anime that not only works in seasons, but in 2 parts per season as well.

But season 2 part 2 doesn't seem to have any of these things. Along the university arc I would have never complained about the lack of action or world building as it makes sense that due to the circumstances they would be slowed down. Although I feel like we could've gotten a bit more lore on other powerful people and a bit more information on Rudy's growth, these are details that can be glossed by. But now with the opportunity to have more great action scenes and the opportunity to get more world building... it seems rushed.

We barely got anything concerning the Begaritt continent, they skipped through most of the fights and an arc (I understand maybe that part), and the anime just doesn't flow anymore even during a few university episodes. As for the animation it's a bit subpar in the action sequences. Rudy's attacks used to seem so powerful, but now they look ok at best sometimes. Though there have been some good ones like the fight with Luke, most of them have disappointed.

One last thing I will criticize, and this may also be due to the LN, is that in the most recent episode it is said that Roxy has been stuck there for a month, but she seems to use 5 spells within a minute and drain all of her mana. According to what I've seen so far this seems like a stupid way of using mana and makes no sense as to how she could've lasted so long with that strategy. I also feel they took the easy way out now animating Rudy's attack.

Anyway I am hoping that this is due to the next few eps being great.

I still love this series and will keep watching hoping for improvement.

Honestly, at this point I am begging everyone to ignore the adaptation and just go read the original Light Novel.

While this season technically does follow the original plot, it tries to contain waaaaay more chapters of the novel than it can. Thus, it simply skips some big parts of the plot. Multiple chapters completely and some important details of the chapters that got adapted. I am deeply saddened and angry because this series does deserve a good thorough adaptation, because almost all episodes and details in the novel DO MATTER and add to the experience. If the adaptation is like this - better stop adapting ... it at all. It hurts even more knowing that the first season was amazing, and followed the original almost completely.

It is obvious that the anime makers just figured people loved the series and will consume it anyways, so they don't even bother adapting it well. Please, for the love of God, just go and read the original novel and don't give those who produced this crap of an adaptation a single penny. They don't deserve it
