To start off, I'll describe this manga in four words: horrible plot, pathetic characters
Apparently people decided to give too much of a cold shoulder of Arc V due to "how poorly it concluded" and "the internal tension" of the Arc V staff during the second half of the series. So we got this mess of a manga to talk about it from the resent chapter and how bad it really is. I've seen menny people to denfending mangas, but this one is not as good as it is.
I've read a good bit of it myself up to a certain point, but I have to
break it to everyone here about the reality of this manga-o-mess. While it has terribly bad, considering the abnormally good ratings and reviews in Japan alone, it is not worth trying to follow unless the majority of things you expect are surally are chiefly shonen series. I'll try to give a short rundown while trying not to elongate it or try to be overly biased. But everything I'm about to go into is basically an explanation as to why Arc-V manga is probably one of the worst yugioh mangas so far (yes, even worse than Zexal), despite all the praise it gets in Japan.
Before I start the review let me make it clear: I don't really had any motives or reasons to read back when it first came in 2015, since most of the time i spent watching Synchro coming to an conclusion in 2016 i finally seat down and read It. My first reaction was: ''WHAT?!'' - ''Stone Cold'' Steve Austion whould of said it more accurate then me XD
Shin Yoshida is the main writer just like he wrote the Zexal manga while doing the anime version of it aswell. He is currently wroking on Vrains (and doing not so well with viewers since it keepts gettin' a recap non-stop)
STORY: Honestly, the plot is pretty good compared to those from previous yugioh and other shonen series. It has a focus only
Yuya and his counterparts while figiting the evil forces of Leo Corporation and the Main Villans. Now first time i saw Yuya having all of his counterparts in him made sense, but it confused me and how he got them inside him in the first place. Also, he has amnesia. But it reveal in a later chapter something having to due with Zarc or some mambo-jumbo bs i can't really recall. The setup would've been much better, though, if the other components of this series were at least good. World building ain't all great either. Plus we have Judeo-Christian Symbolism wiuth a card whose name can be shortened to "GOD" and has the power to decide the fate of the world. The ones who caused this mess was Eve. Yes. It's bean reveal that christianisim was also involed in makind's donwfall. But the biggest issue with the plot has come in the form of how it treat the viewers into thinking they need to make this manga look better with this ''GOD'' bullshit stuff. Why did the Original dimesion in this show have to of bean writen porrly and how is this all make any loggical reason. Pacing is clearly a mess at times and some chapters aren't explaned why are facedly pace, whilte others look slow. Some of the elements i wished we're better off in the show then this trainwreck. In one chapter they want to kill a world of people to created a new one, only to blame people who never got involved in this mess. It's the same formula for the Doma/Oricalcos arc from Yu-Gi-Oh Duel monsters. One word. Hypocrites. The time travaling thing is kinda 5d's season 5.
ART: The only thing that can be really called as an actual improvement is the good character style. Otherwise, the designs really isn't that breathtaking as people claim it to be. Not much good scenes with characters and some parts of the show never explaned or why they got there. Even the world building i said was not well planned out like i hoped.
CHARACTER: Honestly, the character I think are one dimensinal, otherwise they don't even think for themselves or act 3 dimensional. The way they wrote some of the filer cast made me bore my self with people like Shun and Sawatari (who both from the show are actually 10 times better than what Yoshida wrote for them). Shun is power hungry? Is this Zane Trusdale season 2 all over. If so, then they screwed him up way worse than anime Shun was way at the end of Zarc's arc. He actually made Arc-V look better, but his manga counterpart is a compleate joke and got poorly treated in one stupid and only duel. Meanwhile Shingo still is the same moron just like his anime counterpart expect he hardly loses and doesnt care to duel or not. Not comes the actually character i wanna rant about. Yuzu Hiragi. Unlike her anime counterpart who gave us more hope for girls in future series even at one point after she loses to Sergey from the crash scene made her post-Dark Singer Akiza 2.0 or far worse than Asuka from Gx season 3. Manga Yuzu is everything wrong with her being treated like another waifu, eye-candy loly figure. She is nothing more than a money addict and doesn't duel compared to her anime counter who had lots of character development and more action. In this version she got treated soo porrly with one scene of Yuya touching her boob for groupe and making me really pissed. Or, when Yugo talked about some sexist stuff in previous scale. Unfortunately, with most yugioh series, the main female characters often get kicked aside as fodder or setup for the main protagonists to look good defeating the ones who hurt them. Heck, Blue Angel's symbolism and representation would designate her as the appropriate person to defeating ''Insert Villan here''....but NOOOOO, the staff was like "heft her and make Yuya look good exacting some non-egao duels cause we need that...VERY disappointing route they took with this. Oh yeah, i can tollerate Yuya from the show, his counterpart in this version is however the other disapointment i wanna talk about. He doesn't even act for any smiles and the only angst you fell is to punch the kid in the face. Most of his duels are porrly written and hardly fleshed out. I forgot to mention how bad are the duels in this simmaler to how Zexal had problem dueling and menny of them are ending pretty boring with the other player overpowering the other. Another thing i really hate they did. Speaking of Yuya, his counteparts aren't even well fouced enought either. Yugo and Yuri are actually doing most of the work, while Yuto get's shoved aside only worser than his anime counterpart. While i do like the dragon designs they made for this version. They felt like they're aren't used much and ruined my interest in knowing whatever happen to Yuto's Dark Rebellion Dragon in the second chapther.
Akaba Reiji seemed far better at first with his motivation to defeate Eve's groupe for the sake of his own fatherdaycare; however, that's really the only good thing he actually has going for him. Everything else about him, for the most part, is just cringe, especially his style of ''Dueling". While understaning him use more Pendulum summoning than anime Reiji who used all 4 summoning methouds. This one made me hate the duel setup. First duel was stupid and left me speachless, then he really got me mad when his second duel turned out really boring and horribly paced. Also, Reiji and Yuya only think about both accompleshing the motives of thier dads (Leo Akaba and Youshow) causing them think only for someone else rather for the whole thinking about youself personallity.Honestly, action cards are bad here, to the point where plot armor for for most characters felt more obnoxious than usual.
Ren? Eve? Adam? Sora? They're not that bad of a villainous group, but honestly, they're not as intimidating as most of the other yugioh villains in the past. Even Zarc from Arc V anime, as badly written out as he was due to time constraints and budget, feel more compelling and exciting as a villain than Eve is so far, imo. Even Adam who is suppose to be the Zarc of this manga seemed kinda boring with no backstory and even not all great with only one appearence. Ren was actually a love child of Yugo and Rin who later turned out to be Z-One 2.0 and got no mention of what did he even did to stop Yuya at all. Sora is actually pretty pathetic than his anime counterpart of having only 2 ''single duels'' in the entire show. Best plot whist when he whent full Yami Marik liek that seemd zero character for him, imo.Sure, a series doesn't need to be 100% edgy, but the way they make remarks or do stupid things in the middle of a high-stakes or hazardous situation is revolting and takes away so much from what was supposed to be enjoyable and keeps you on your heels.
Transcendent Pendulum Summon? Overscale Pendulum? WHAT IS THIS CREATION AND WHY IS GOOD IF IT WAS USED ONLY ONCE AND KINDA POORLY WRITEN.I only like monster art styles in some ways.
Enjoyment: My grade of enjoyment on this manga was severely hurt by pretty much everything explained above. How bad was it for me in terms of enjoyment? During a few of Sora and even Yuya's duels, I legitimately got lulled to sleep due to the lackluster complexity of the duels themselves. Yea, the duels were actually decent, but not exciting or memorable at all. The only time I were actually kinda exciting, especially when Yuya first invoked ''Odd-Eyes Phantasma Dragon'' to turn the tides of that battle. Otherwise, for the most part, I find myself cringing with each badly misplaced moment, to the point where even when the important plot points came, I wasn't as engaged as I was supposed to be. Heck, I have not even mentioned HOW MANY DAMN TIME I'VE BEAN TOLD IT'S GONNA SHOW BETTER POTENTIAL THAN THS ACTUAL SHOW this manga has had so far. I heard explanations and excuses for the reasons, but I don't really care, cause the same people didn't give Arc V any sort of pass, for the most part, for its own flaws and internal staff issues. This is cleary bad with each new chapter it reveleves each month. Look Ar-V, I’m not in the mood for this stupidity. I clearly hate this mess and that's my take on it.
I'm sorry to say this, but...if you're an anime fan in general, I'll give you the best advice regarding this manga:
DON'T READ IT, unless you have absolutely nothing else to do; even with the latter, you probably will be disappointed by how
And with that, I end my review, and I apologize to someone who may have gotten very upset reading all of this, cause I am by no means trying to make people triggered or spiteful...I am simply stating my honest opinion about what's probably the for the best if i said what i think about it.
