Sword art online anime list to find out correct watch order and learn little bit about SAO. Listed in a chronological order, without overcomplicating content like recaps or 'super extra' content.
Anything that doesn't necessarily better your anime viewing experience isn't included in this list. This list is for people who want enjoy watching Sword art online without annoyance. The novels are probably good read if you want more SAO.
Some specials like Gun Gale Online are in middle of main story, for if it is more in par with one season (this case 2nd season) than others.

Main story, very good watch. If you aren't too much hooked in after watching the end of first part of the story, it might be good idea to lover your expectations for later content except for progressive (Progressive is piece of art). Sequels get progressively more and more bad (my opinion).

Mostly recap of SAO's 1st season, but provides little bit of extra story content between recapping. Worth the watch, you can even skip through most of it and watch the new content.

1st movie of Progressive path. Gives more detailed alternate part for SAO's main ark. This definitely is must watch if you liked SAO, or you can just watch the progressive without knowing anything about SAO. It's very good.

2nd season of SAO.
Still pretty good sequel for SAO with it's goods and bads. While it gives Kazuto Kirigaya lot of screen time it jumps off of the original SAO plot what we got trough in 1st season and doesn't build all of the older character too much while it introduces lot of newer ones.

Alicization is little childish in my opinion but possibly worth the watch if you really like SAO.

Continues the story of Alicization ark. I don't like the story building too much but I think it has it's share of epic moments and character arks.

5th season of SAO. (Alicization - War of Underworld 2nd Season)
The story doesn't move forward enough and is childish without enough 'logic' in my opinion. I don't really like the Alicization arc that much myself as the other arcs.
