Fantasy Shoujo Anime
Anime
These are all some of my favorite fantasy Shoujo anime! There’s a lot of fantasy shounen but it’s rare to find people with a huge list of Shoujo fantasy and if they do have one it tends to be a lot of the same stuff. Here’s mine. I hope you find something new to watch. If not, I’m sorry for not being helpful enough. I’ll also be adding donghua (Chinese anime) in here because a lot of them are really worth watching. There’s one anime on here that airs in the fall but I’ve read and am obsessed with the source material and the trailers look amazing so I feel comfortable putting it on here. They are in rank from my highest score to lowest. FYI just because something might be ranked low doesn’t mean that it’s bad, it’s in my favorites list after all. Also, just because these are Shoujo anime doesn’t necessarily mean they all are romances. Enjoy!

Kamisama Kiss is an amazing fantasy show with an equally amazing set of characters. It has a great lore that unravels with each episode and a slow burn romance the keeps butterflies in your stomach. It’s also extremely funny as well. Give this a go! Make sure to watch the second season and the OVAs which I’ve added into the stack as well.

I have a lot of thoughts on Inuyasha and despite it being a staple in shoujo anime if I start talking about it I usually end up ranting negatively on this amazing show. So I won’t be describing it because I’ll just make myself mad. These characters are a very amazing cast of characters. It’s a fun world with beautiful art and every character has depth. The romance is mostly a frustrating love triangle which I tend to hate which is why my score is so low. HOWEVER, this is objectively amazing series and it deserves the hype it gets. Definitely watch this show, even if you end up hating the main character who the entire show is named after like myself. Lmfao, just try it as I, sure you’ll all like it.

This is one of my favorite shoujo anime in general and it’s just a beautiful show. Every character has nuance and while the show definitely deserves a second season, I recommend watching the anime then the OVA (which I’ve added to my stack as well) and then going in and reading the manga. It’s a beautiful story with a fantastic and enthralling world and intriguing politics that keep me riveted to my seat. This is a must watch.

This series is about a young man who falls in love with his mother in law who happens to be around his age and the women he ends up attracted to in order to forget about her. The main character isn’t completely… sympathetic at all. In fact, I’d say I hated him while I watched this show HOWEVER watching this show is so new and refreshing. The mythology around the main character and his women is just so different from anything else I’ve ever watched. It doesn’t try to paint him in a good light they make him responsible for his actions and I think that’s pretty cool for a show like this. I don’t know it’s just a unique show.

This series is a reverse harem show based off of an Otome game. If you’ve played the video game, you’ve probably already seen this anime and if you haven’t I’m not quite sure if you’ll be satisfied with this adaption. I haven’t played the video game myself so I can’t say. All I know is that this is such a cool series and I love the endgame relationship. It’s a unique world and storyline that I haven’t really seen before and so I love the concept as well. Check it out!

This series has a completely different vibe than a lot of other shows I’ve watched. It’s unique and it’s just so visually pleasing as well. It’s a mystery, fantasy Shoujo and I’d say that it can even be kind of creepy at times. If you’re looking for straight up mystery, thriller than I’d say look somewhere else. It can be creepy but it can also be pretty cheesy as well. It’s funny and the characters interact with one another so we’ll that they feel real. It’s wonderful.

It’s not a romance show so if that’s what you’re looking for, it’s not this show. However, it’s an amazing action series that actually made me cry and it deserves all the love it can get.

This action packed romance series is an oldie but a goodie. It’s a wonderfully written story set in a world that just feels so real. A Shoujo series about two guys who are fated trying to live in a messed up world. The world itself is very well written and watching the lives of these two makes you feel really sad for them. The characters themselves are also really well written and designed well and they have some amazing chemistry. They remind me a bit of Ash and Eiji, while this show can get sad the ending isn’t tragic like Banana Fish though. The animation is pretty good as well. I just love this show.

This series is a wonderful series about these four guys who have nothing really in common finding each other and deciding to travel west because of some circumstances. This show is incredibly funny, emotional, cool, and action packed. It has several different seasons and is sort of a cult classic. I absolutely love this series and I read most of the manga as well. It’s literally such a cool action series and I think that it’s one of my favorites. Definitely go on a Saiyuuki binge, it’s everything.

This romance isekai is a bit different from a lot of other isekai shows I’ve seen. It’s rare to find an isekai anime with a female main lead and with a love interest that doesn’t sexualize her. This is just a fluffy and adorable show between a saint and a knight and it’s just very lovely.

This sci-fi, action BL is based off of a Japanese visual light novel. As someone who hasn’t read the visual novel, it’s a pretty cool series. I’m not sure what you would think about it if you have seen the visual novel and I’d assume it’s probably not as good as the source material. However, I absolutely love this. I don’t hate this show and I know a lot of other people do like this. It’s a reverse harem villainess series and it’s funny. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite show and the first season is great. I had read the manga and so when I was watching the series I decided that I would only watch the first season because after that I knew it just sort of drags. The rest of the series is just bakarina continuously doesn’t realize that people are falling for her and meeting new people who fall in love with her so she doesn’t have to choose because again she’s dense. I don’t know if you’re into harem series then this is probably one of the best ones. If you don’t, like I don’t then just watch the first season and then ditch it.
