The ULTIMATE Gintama Collection
Anime
I just like doing it my own way sometimes
In this stack I will also list all arcs that have at least 3 episodes (with a couple exceptions for 2-episode arcs). Arcs listed as (S) can be considered "serious arcs". Arcs will be listed with both their overall Gintama episode number, and their in-season episode number between brackets.
Structure:
1. The main Gintama canon, with all projects that directly adapt manga chapters (or other sources).
2. (Non-canon) side content that is worth a watch either during the main series, or afterward.
3. The recap/compilation movie series "Gintama on Theater 2D".
4. Jump Festa and other secials that could a fun watch
5. Ads, PV's and other collabs
I will also try to answer any weird questions related to the series in the specific entries, but let it be known that a lot of these will actually be answered through the show itself!
For example, "Why does every subsequent season have a symbol instead of a number next to the name?" is a question answered right at the first episode of S2.
Be sure to also check out my Spotify playlist with every OP/ED/Insert song for the series: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1UXKjDN5dY3mf89IiBlmou?si=8ffb65141a3c4e07
Note: "Yorinuki Gintama-San" was a series that featured high definition re-runs of 51 episodes of the first Gintama season. This series contained 6 original OP's and ED's on top of using the Benizakura Movie themes as an OP/ED set. All the OP's and ED's are viewable on Youtube.

Season 1 of Gintama
Episodes 1-201
SKIP EPISODE 1 AND 2. These are both not-canon, and you're probably gonna have a difficult time getting up to speed with the characters, since most of those that appear here, will be properly introduced later in the first season.
Other than those two episodes, I would advise AGAINST skipping any of the "filler". On my own first watchthrough I honestly couldn't even tell the difference between the filler and non-filler, since the filler is just more of the same Gintama shenanigans.

Spin-off series based on the "3-nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi Sensei" Light novel series. Recommended to watch after having finished all of Gintama, this is because there will be a lot of characters and references that will not make sense until you've watched some of the later seasons.

Remake of the Benizakura arc from Gintama Season 1.
The entire arc has been reanimated to fit the widescreen format with some additional scenes. While it's cool to see the arc animated this way, I'd say save this movie for when you have watched the first arc of S2, so after experiencing the transition to widescreen (then again that's just personal preference from my side).
Recommended to watch after either:
- Episode 203 (personal recommendation)
- Episode 57 (theoretical recommendation, as a replacement to the arc)

Anime original movie that served as a possible "ending" to the Gintama anime.
This movie was produced purely on the basis that Sunrise (the animation studio) wasn't sure if they could continue with the series after Season 2 due to both budget and a lack of popularity. The movie is quite engaging, but it's not really talked about in the series outside some surface level references from S3 onward.
Personally I watched it after having finished the entire series since it didn't feel right to watch a "conclusion" when there was still more Gintama content to watch (also I craved more content after the Final Movie and this filled that hole pretty perfectly).
Recommended to watch after either:
- Gintama: The Final (personal recommendation)
- Episode 264 (theoretical recommendation, end of S2)

Compilation movies of the Shinsengumi Crisis and Kabukicho Four Devas arcs.
The "On Theater 2D" movies are different from the Benizakura movie in that they're not a reanimated version of the associated arc, it's just the episodes from the anime stitched together and released in theaters and home media.
These do not contain a lot of extra content and/or additional cuts, however the Shinsengumi Crisis arc is now in a widescreen format, then again it's just a zoomed in release of the 4:3 version, so you do lose a lot by watching this version.
