Slam Dunk
Manga, 31 vol, 1990 Me:- Author:10
Slam dunk will be on the top. this manga is my personal fav manga which i will put above other.

reasons: relatable characters with depth, energy and expressions brought in action sequence by art style is best, intense and well paced matches and it has realistic depiction on basketball.

You have to read this, I swear you will love this one. I will not recommend the anime but watch the movie.
Blue Lock
Manga, ? vol, 2018 Me:- Author:9
Now I don't even need to tell you guys about this manga. even attack on titan mangaka; Isayama recommended this manga.

well, this manga is about making the best striker in Japan but in most unique way. It definitely has the unique premise, complex characters, stunning artwork and one of the best main characters. You will just love the characters, I bet.

so just go and read it.

warning: Do not watch the anime, specially season 2.

Diamond no Ace

Ace of the Diamond

Diamond no Ace
Manga, 47 vol, 2006 Me:- Author:9
First of all if you have time and you like to watch anime please go and watch anime of this manga and if you like manga more then definitely try this one.

This manga got the intense and realistic game vibe and art style is just cherry on top. One of the best main character development I have seen in manga. Team dynamics are way better, which makes this one different from the rest.

Only drawback is it's length but for some people it might be the advantage.

pick this up right now, if you love baseball.
Kokou no Hito
Manga, 17 vol, 2007 Me:- Author:-
This one is the best Art wise, it has that psychological depth to characters and even the main character is the most unique one. This manga is not team focused one and our main character will develop at his own pace. Climbing scenes were so realistic thanks to the artstyle.

It is more of a sports manga which talks about existential theme and focus on personal journey, freedom (not AoT one) and pursuit of self fulfillment.

Definitely worth reading.
Major
Manga, 78 vol, 1994 Me:- Author:-
Some people get scared only by looking at its length and i do not blame them. 78 volumes is not a joke but what i am telling you is that, this one got the consistency.

This one particularly has the best length to explore baseball as a sports deeper and same can be said to its characters and their relationships.

it has that generational storytelling that many of the reader love to see in manga. It has the hardships and exploration of perseverance so this definitely makes it a top 20 sports manga and worth reading.
Eyeshield 21
Manga, 37 vol, 2002 Me:- Author:-
Very underrated manga, it makes me sad. Main character is easily someone you will found yourself rooting for. Only American football manga i have read and it made me glad that I read this.

Murata yusuke does the art, If you are stopped even after reading this line then condolences because he is one of the best artist out there, man he did One punch man.

It got creative matches, great cast of characters, Great rivals, balance between comedy and drama and the unique take on American football.

Just go and read this one, not like you got something better to do.

Hajime no Ippo

Hajime no Ippo: Fighting Spirit!

Hajime no Ippo
Manga, ? vol, 1989 Me:- Author:-
Well, Everyone know about this manga so I personally will not talk much. people who knows this one and have not read this yet are never gonna read this (category 1), but for those who just came to know about this one recently or never heard about this before and planning to read this one should just pick it up before you end up like category 1.

This one tops for many people because of the character development, intense matches and dramatic & comedic parts.

Ashita no Joe

Ashita no Joe: Fighting for Tomorrow

Ashita no Joe
Manga, 20 vol, 1968 Me:- Author:-
Classic one. The best Quote. The most influential.

Realistic storytelling, complex protagonist and deep character development, emotional rivalries and many other best element mixture make this one the GOAT of sports manga.

Start till end this one makes you engaged with its storytelling.

Even other mangaka gets inspired by this manga, this one is the true depiction of person fighting for its own dreams.

Joe is such an iconic character, even thinking about him makes me fire up.
Ao Ashi
Manga, ? vol, 2015 Me:- Author:9
Ishowspeed: Sike! Blue lock better.

well, he might be true but I have seen more ao ashi fans in comparison to blue lock and I am not setting bar low because both of the manga has different takes on football.

this one particularly dive deep in team sports factor, exactly what everyone think football is generally known for that is team sports.

There is intensity in matches and tad bit of romance which does not hinder the story much and helps it get better.

so reading Ao ashi alongside blue lock is best.
Giant Killing
Manga, ? vol, 2007 Me:- Author:-
Another football manga and another unique and different one.

This one is a story of a coach, makes you tingle right? so, this one has the unique perspective to this team sports as it is from an unconventional coach perspective.

Soccer felt more realistic while reading this one. it is also an underdog in comparison to others but it lives up to the expectation of readers, as they have no expectations to begin with, just kidding!!

Try this one because of its unique perspective, strong character development, good art, psychological depth, realistic team dynamics and strategies.

Ballroom e Youkoso

Welcome to the Ballroom

Ballroom e Youkoso
Manga, ? vol, 2011 Me:- Author:9
Art is awesome, let me repeat chi-chan is best. Which one, though?

Unique sports, ever heard of ballroom? if not, then welcome to ballroom.

This manga got beautiful artwork as well as dynamics, complexity in relationships of characters which makes it more prone to drama in a good way.

First time seen such a realistic portrayal of dance as a sports. Even the protagonist is so dedicated to it even after no experience whatsoever.

This one will surely end up in your top sports manga list, I am damn sure!
One Outs
Manga, 20 vol, 1998 Me:- Author:-
Hottest one.

The only sports manga which will make you think, just who is this guy.

Main character is that guy. He is so damn annoying in eyes of opponent and hero in readers that you will love him.

A very unique take on baseball? or I will say baseball player. Just wait till you see main character feats which will make you read more and more.

Just believe in me and read this one.
H2
Manga, 34 vol, 1992 Me:- Author:-
Only Mitsuri adachi manga which I think can make it in top 20. Other might be Touch or cross game. but this one is different.

It has Adachi's iconic art style, well-rounded storyline, Character driven plotline and a great blend of sports and slice of life.

Slice of life part will give you an emotional connection with characters and sports part will never let you down.
Haikyuu!!
Manga, 45 vol, 2012 Me:- Author:-
The BEST sports manga/anime as per beginners.

how true is it? In my opinion it is definitely one of the best as it has some of the best arcs which will has potential to end up in your top 10 sports manga arcs or top arcs in general.

You gotta watch anime first if you have enough time, because anime scenes give goosebumps one after another.

If you have no time then read this.

Haikyuu!! will not disappoint!!
Real
Manga, ? vol, 1999 Me:- Author:-
Stunning art work.

I was not sure about adding this one as it is on hiatus and no hopes of ever getting an end but why not? this one is one of the legendary manga that every manga enthusiasts should definitely try once and read all the way through.

By the author of slam dunk and vagabond, those who know, knows, just who is this legend Takehiko Inoue.

This has authentic depiction on disability, deep character development, intense basketball action, themes of resilience and hope, philosophical depth to story and emotional resonance.

just this this one for me!

Kamigami no Itadaki

The Summit of the Gods

Kamigami no Itadaki
Manga, 5 vol, 2000 Me:- Author:-
Shortest Manga and another climbing one.

This one has that combination of sports action and mythological elements, which makes it unique one.

Artwork is visually striking, capturing the beauty of nature and such is done exceptionally well in this one.

It explore deeply about competition and ambitions which goes between gods and humans. These give it an extra philosophical depth to story.

You got to try this!!

Kuroko no Basket

Kuroko's Basketball

Kuroko no Basket
Manga, 30 vol, 2008 Me:- Author:-
Note: It got a good anime adaptations so I will recommend watching anime.

But, Buttt if you have no time like my past self then you got many reasons to read this one out.

It has the unique premise for a basketball manga, people who read it knows what exactly I am talking about.

It has intense basketball action like others but the teamwork and friendship stands out too much in those matches. there are better rivals which leads to proper growth of characters.

There are many lighthearted moments consist of humor.

It will leave an impact on you as you will finish reading this. read this, what are you waiting for?

Manga, ? vol, 2020 Me:- Author:-
Medalist has the intriguing premise that makes it engaging from get go. Characters in medalists are well developed and relatable. This one also is solo sports which revolve around skating.

It is said to be emotional and motivational for many people.

Artwork also hit home.

This one is ongoing, so what is stopping you from being caught up with this manga?
Wind Breaker
Manhwa, ? vol, 2013 Me:- Author:-
Only manhwa that made to my top 20 list is this one.

I found this one the most intense one out of all, i can't tell the places from where I sweated while reading this.

Such a good beginner material for both manhwa medium and sports genre.

As a non-manhwa fan this one along with very few other make me engage in story as it has that depth to story and character.

Definitely worthwhile. Just try.
