Anime

Just some of my personal opinion on some (mostly but not all) spring 2023 anime.

I am placing them in the best to worst order.

Why are the so many tens? Well, most of the score I gave out is high because it based on my overall enjoyment and factor in the production value of them.

Also this list it not finished since there are movies and OVA which I don't have access to, yet.

Kubo-san is here because it was set for a rebroadcast in this season.
"Oshi no Ko"
TV, 2023, 11 eps Me:- Author:10
The entire cast is waifu material. Even the mother and Aqua.
Not much to say but eye-candy and Kana-chan.

Probably the most hyped anime this year
Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu
TV, 2023, 12 eps Me:- Author:10
This will remain the biggest cumback that I have ever seen in anime (at least for me, I havent watched that much).

The pacing is complete perfect.
The story is absorbing.
The characters are unique for the mains cast and generic for the side cast.]
The art is plain eyes candy.
With great animation and music to back it up, this has been an amazing anime

I remember criticising Ichikawa for his cringey delusionals no less than the first 3 episode but, the more this anime advances the more he comes to realise his feeling towards Yamada is something else. It all started with episode 3, he finally realised that he actually like her. Episode 4 marks the first step in this relationship where they started to talk openly, as friend. Then comes episode 6, where he reaffirmed all of his thought to comes to the conclusion that he like her, in fact he like her so much. Everything after that is just sweet and cady, from the scenario to the interactions between them. No more calloused thoughts and delusional thinking, just plain diabetes and wholesomeness.
Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia
TV, 2023, 13 eps Me:- Author:10
Okay where do I start with this one?

Insomniac - a person who regularly unable to sleep.
Okay so?
The story is about a couple who both suffer from insomnia. Which maybe have messed up their regular life alots. Nakami who has publicly disclosed that he has insomnia. Everybody in class doesn't seem to care much about it. One day while doing some chore in the old storage room of the school he stumbles across Magari, a girl who is sleeping in the same room. That is when he finds out she has been suffering the same as him but was hiding it from everyone.

Okay insomnia I get it. But how the story even connects?
Back to the storage room. In typical rom-com fashion, the door broke while they are still inside it. They are stuck in there until Nakami called a friend who can help, a friend that was willing to hide the fact them have insomnia. The forced proximity gives birth to an unlikely bond, and the two find solace and comfort in each other's company. After trust has been built, Nagari offer to share the place to the fellow insomniac.
Luck didn't favour them as they have been discovered to have used the storage room for midday nap and were force out of there. Luckily, turns out it was the old room for the astrology club. So they reviled the astrology club, being a club they must take part in the club activities to maintain it. Along the way they build up their relationship based on mutual trust and belief.

Okay there is a story but how good is it?
Well, 10/10 good.
What made this so good is the interaction between them. Its the same high school way as the other romances but unique and sweet in it own way. Plus, astrology is not just for showing, the story displays some serious astrology/astrography related knowledge. The night sky isn't just plain black with some light dots. Its a picture that is painted with billions and billions of stars gathered over 13.7 billion years. A picture can be seen by eyes but can't just be capture easily. That is where astrographyy comes in.
The astrology aspect also help builds up amazing looking art with the aforementioned night sky painted directly down the water, sparkling in the eyes of Nakami and Maguri. Just plain eyes candy for viewers.

With solid story pacing, amazing animation and absorbing music to back it up to make an astonishing romance anime.

Spring 2023 has been blessed with many romance animes but for me this is the best of romance this season has to offer. Skip to Loafer is also very near this one while Bokuyaba has a slow and cringe start but has massive developments along the last six episodes, but I seem to enjoy this anime more. Just personal reference.

This probably one of the only time where I write a full review like this. I hope other people can enjoy the show like I do.
Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi wo Suru
TV, 2023, 13 eps Me:- Author:10
Unlike the manga counterpart, the anime adaptation of Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi wo Suru is quite appealing to the Seinen demographic dude like me.

The pacing is good, each episode is packed with enough content that did not leave bored.

The story is absorbing, there are those annoying cliffhangers at the end of each episode.

The character design amazing, especially our main girl: Akane (Im saying this because I may or may not be a big Akanechii simp).

The story focuses on the main couple and those from the guild and leaves out the minor characters.

The "drama" aspect is lite, most of them come from the aforementioned cliffhangers.

The art is unique and appealing to me, maybe because of I don't watch Shoujo's that much.
Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Bakuen wo!
TV, 2023, 12 eps Me:- Author:10
Despite being a spinoff, this did not feel like at all.

The store explained the past of your favorite archwizards Megumi and Yunyun, her best friend and the adventures they had before Megumi join the Kazuma squad.

The first half is about her past at the crimson demon village. How she met Yunyun, befriended with her and acquired the explosion magic.

The second half about their adventure to first city of Arcanletia where Aqua's Axis cult located then carry on to Axel where our original Konosuba adventure started. Not much can be said about the 2nd half without spoiling it All you need to know is that it's gonna be the plain OG Konosuba vibes all over again.
TV, 2023, 12 eps Me:- Author:10
Is there a rule for cute?
Is there a certain type of people who can say the word cute?
Is there a certain type of art style that needed to be followed?
Can I, a bloke says the world cute? No? Well, im saying it anyway lol.

Skip to Loafer follows Mitsumi, a countryside girl who has just attends high school in the big city. Being a countryside girl she is, shall we say "clueless", to how stuffs work here. Comes Shima a "hot" city-boy who attends the same school as Mitsumi. Theirs personality are on the opposites, but they formed a strong friendship.

With unique art style and good music to back it up. This is a must try.
Kubo-san wa Mob wo Yurusanai
TV, 2023, 12 eps Me:- Author:10
So, the broadcast of Kubo-san wa Mob wo Yurusana has finally ended after half year of airing. The whole anime (or this season at least) can mostly be summed up by the lyrics from the opening singed by the VA of Kubo-san herself Kana Hanazawa:
♪♪♪
Please let the time freeze, even just for a moment.
When did it all start? I don't remember anymore,
But that doesn't really matter, it's only a minor detail.
Then I realize, I always cry and laugh,
And can sometimes be stubborn.

When the traffic light changes
At one, two, three we all go (as we are)
Even if we don't say where to (infinitely)
I'm sure we can go.

Even if it's not dramatic.
Even if I complain about being bored,
Someday I'll suddenly remember this day.
Even without romantic words, it's okay,
I just want one thing.
Please let the time freeze, even just for a moment.
♪♪♪
(Roughly translated)

Does love have to start somewhere? Does it need to be dramatic? Does it need to something complicated? This story is still romance between middle schoolers I remind you. It's simple and innocent, sometime there are tears, sometime there are laughter and sometime it could be very stubborn. Even without the romantic words, its still love Just let it be, let the time freeze, even just for a moment.

Our story starts with Shiraishi Junta a middle-schooler who is essentially "invincible" towards most others to the point where most of his daily activities are affected by it. His invincibility is rendered useless against an individual, Kubo-san. Nagisa Kubo, the girl who seated next to him. Kubo-san is an assertive person who's acknowledged Shiraishi existence without looking for it. Decisive on not letting him fade away, she finds any opportunity to interact with him, sometime greeting him, sometime teasing him. Because of this Shiraishi often finds himself in a number of odd circumstances that was setup by no other than Kubo-san. Despite this, Kubo's lighthearted pranks could be the spark Shiraishi needs to achieve his goal of enjoying his youthful life.

What made Kubo-san wa Mob wo Yurusana so good mostly comes from the chemistry between Kubo-san and Shiraishi. Kubo-san the teasy type who actually cares about Shiraishi here always take initiative in open up conversation. Shiraishi is also not the dense type we always see in those other rom-com. He does perceive Kubo-san intention but always take the smart way to avoid any confrontation.

With good music, amazing art style and solid pacing to pack it off.

Im not the literature type when come to writing this kind of review, but I hope that its concise enough to help the reader have a good understanding of this anime before watching and I also hope you will have the same experience that I have had with this anime.
Jijou wo Shiranai Tenkousei ga Guigui Kuru.
TV, 2023, 13 eps Me:- Author:10
We have adult, high-school, middle-school rom-com, might as well throw in a grade school one. To call it romance is quite exaggerating.

The synonym is "The Clueless Transfer Student Is Assertive". From assertive cluelessness leads to unintentional but needed wholesomeness.

The concept of this romcom is straight forward enough, to say anything more will just spoil other people. TDLR the story is sweet wholesome heart-warmed, the art is unique with good music and production and back it up. This one probably should have deserved more attention this season.
Megami no Café Terrace
TV, 2023, 12 eps Me:- Author:10
This one gave me insane Gotoubun no Hanayome vibes. Also, they share strikingly similar elements.
Both are harem (good one)
Both Male MC are fucking chad who isn't dense about others' feelings and intentions. They always talk the smart way out of situations that may cause oppositions in the harem.
Girl from each side has similar personality traits and maybe appearance.
Ichika - Akane
Nino - Riho
Miku - Shiragiku
Yotsuba - Ami
Itsuki - Ouka

The different thing about them is obviously the setting and the newer one is an ecchi.
Oh and I'm not surprised if Ami wins this harem out of the blue. Okay well maybe not out of the blue but still imagine she won because of her goofiness.

Similar to Bokuyaba this seaoson. This show has a slow start but the more youre into it the better it becomes. Also they literally announce the follow up season for both when they ended.

Not much to say. Just plain diabetes doses. If you love the fisrt season. You'll love this 2nd season.
Otonari ni Ginga
TV, 2023, 12 eps Me:- Author:10
Okay this one is special. At first, I thought this was romance with childcare since there are 2 toddlers in most of the pre-air visual but when I started watching it, it isn't seemed to be the case here.

The story is about a princess of an alien? ,idk what it officially called let's just go for alien now, village, who fled the village because she was assigned for a force marriage, and a shoujo mangaka, who is taking care of his siblings after his late parents.

Okay then adult romance?
Maybe, I also wouldn't call it adult romance. This felt just like Tonikawa (the anime above this one) but with characters who are actual adult. The same sweet diabetes each and each episode. Maybe even more than Tonikawa.

Just watch it. Any more info I give out is just a spoiler at this point.

Okay this is some good shit. also warning for s̶u̶i̶c̶i̶d̶e̶ and s̶e̶x̶u̶a̶l̶ a̶s̶s̶a̶u̶l̶t̶.

Tengoku Daimakyou set in a sci-fi post-apocalyptic/ supernatural theme with 2 different timelines to follow.
+The Kiruko and Maru timeline follows their adventure on the outside world surviving and fighting of the anomaly of the post-apocalyptic Japan.
+The other timeline follows the story of the life inside a nursery where they manage a group of students strictly while also conducting experiments on them. But in any sci-fi fashion this is fishy af.

Each episode is densely packed with content while also keeping it psychological story pacing. While each episode can manage to both explaining the story while also making it more confusing in but new in a new way.

With good art, good animation, good sfx plus the extra comedic moment before the storm.

This is probably the one where you called underrated. Being a parody ecchi anime this one is unique in its own way. Mostly thighs.

Yes, you heard that right. Thighs fetish. One of the newer fetishes these years, thighs has proven to be a strong yet healthy fetish. I myself also have thighs fetish so I can relate a lot with Touka our main character here.

Looks like the author has surpassed da Vinci, Michelangelo, Picasso, etc... in the art of fanservice ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls: U149
TV, 2023, 12 eps Me:- Author:10
Once again, I'm amazed at how enjoyable the IDOLM@STER franchise can be.

To put it simply, The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls: U149 is just the original The IDOLM@STER/ The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls but will loli girls most of which are under 149 cm hence the U149 tag. You can watch this thing without watching the original The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls because they arent linked to each other.

Despite having only 12 episodes The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls: U149 still tell an amazing story about a group of 9 girls idol and. Each girl has their own personality, each has their down problem to deal with but they all has a fair share amount of screen time and developments. And again, the Producer-san played an important role of linking and developing this idol group.

Also one thing to mentioned is that this anime production quality is more than up to 2023 standard.

Edomae Elf

Probably the "unexpected" of this season. This one has all the goodies of having very high-quality production value, good story, good music, animations and Iyashikei SOL pacing.

When the author gets so feed up with describing a personality of and elf who lives hundreds of years struggle with the interaction to modern world, he just decided to make a cute waifu elf.

With that being said this anime gives some insane knowledge of the Japanese historical traditions. With good amount of comedy, good character chemistry between Elda and Miko and cute characters design makes a unique anime.

Note that this is a very Iyashikei SOL so it may note be for everyone but hey I hope this overview gives you a clear headsup of what to comes in this anime.

Yeah, no thought on this one. It's a good action movie with an organized crime. Good doesn't necessary mean easy to watch. The genres are suspense, pychological and thriller, you'll get how comfortable this one can be, tragedy after tragedy.

I gave this one a 8 because some of the story and material are straight up out of sherlock.

Imagine the whole earth destruction was brought to the halt just because of the existence of a cat. With the word "cute" you'll get where this one is heading. I'll leave up to you to discover the details.

For a strange concept this one has surprisingly good story constructing. With solid story , unique art. You shouldnt ignore this onbn
Watashi no Yuri wa Oshigoto desu!
TV, 2023, 12 eps Me:- Author:9
This show has all type all type of yuri: loli, shy girl, gyaru, oneesan, you name it.

At first when I start watch this I wasnt expecting much other than just cute girls and Yuri acts. Im also not the type who enjoy drama much, but I actually enjoy this one. The drama is lite mostly about misunderstandings and bad psychological development. All was resolved in the end and we are left with a wholesome girl love anime.

Also there are like 30% rom-com and the rest 70% is just unnecessary drama
Isekai One Turn Kill Neesan: Ane Douhan no Isekai Seikatsu Hajimemashita
TV, 2023, 12 eps Me:- Author:8
Uh? Plain incest. Overprotective sister who has a serious bro-con.

Again just like Yuusha ga Shinda! This one is a goofy anime which mainly focuses on comedy and parody aspect. It wont take itself seriously. Just watch it to kill time or you are down so bad.
Tensei Kizoku no Isekai Boukenroku: Jichou wo Shiranai Kamigami no Shito
TV, 2023, 12 eps Me:- Author:7
Okay lets get over this one again. First of all its not bad yeah in term of story and stuff its just a normal OP main isekai like most other but, there are 2 major issue I have with this one.

First is the intentional cringe. You can't go one episode without someone act like "OMG what a surprise". I get it he is OP, and what why are people even surprised. He has established the fact he is not someone normal lol.

The second thing is the pacing is all over the place. The progression is weird. Sometime its fast af and sometime its slower to the point you can go take a dump, comeback and the story haven't even progress.

Away good art good music high production value aside from the 2 annoying thing I just mentioned above.

Also there is literally no romance in this thing. Just a headsup
Isekai de Cheat Skill wo Te ni Shita Ore wa, Genjitsu Sekai wo mo Musou Suru: Level Up wa Jinsei wo Kaeta
TV, 2023, 13 eps Me:- Author:7
Yeah the story is literally little to non. Even
Tensei Kizoku no Isekai Boukenroku: Jichou wo Shiranai Kamigami no Shito, who makes their show to cringe intentionally, has some story to it

The production quality is of this anime is amazing. From the art style to the music and 3D CGI quality.

The story follows our boy Yuuya, who has inferior appearance makes him constantly get abused by his family. One day he stumbled upon on girl in alleyway, you get the idea.

The isekai part of the story is that he found an old book that open the away/portal thingy to the other world and gain absurd power/skill from it, you know the typical OP main isekai. That is all about it. You might have guessed the follow up.

Just watch this unless youre out of show to watch. If you havent watch OP isekai thing before then sure watch this. Its not bad.
Isekai Shoukan wa Nidome desu
TV, 2023, 12 eps Me:- Author:5
Generic isekai with new format. This one probably the worst in this season where it offers minimal amount of comedy/romance and just focus on the story part where again an OP isekai main who is trying to gather his old folk and trying to figure out what were his old foe is doing.

PS: Im editing this review because I have confirmed this one is way worse than Tensei Kizoku no Isekai Boukenroku: Jichou wo Shiranai Kamigami no Shito. Making it the worst one this season.
