Shows only, no movies. Not genre-specific.

This is for the Muslim anime fans!

DISCLAIMER: I've gotten messages from people who will tell me that some of the anime I have on this list are not halal because of one thing or another. Those people clearly didn't read the description so please DO SO before you start badgering me.

YES, it's probably nigh on impossible to find a non-children's anime that's completely 100% halal (if you are going to be THAT nit-picky then you should probably just not watch anime at all), but for those of you who want to watch something at least a little more clean than usual I've done my best to compile a list of shows that can be watched without too much of a guilty conscience during Ramadan or even normal days, alone or around family members.

I'm NOT excluding shows that have characters killing or dying (gotta have SOME conflict), smoking, drinking (in moderation), cursing, using magic (OTHER than what's listed below), or romance since almost every show has a little of that (so long as no overly physical intimacy is shown, though I tried to avoid anime where romance is the main focus). What I AM excluding are more so things that would be uncomfortable for the average conscientious Muslim to watch.
Shows with a supernatural element are also included so long as they don't include what's listed below.
Shows with a focus on music or drawing are also included, but if you rather avoid those shows as well I'll mention it in their description.

The criteria for this stack is that these shows DO NOT contain:

- Unnecessary nudity or ecchi scenes
- Dick jokes, boob jokes, masturbation jokes or jokes based on characters feeling aroused
- Sexual innuendo or content
- Incest or overly intimate behavior between siblings
- Gods, demons, angels, or other theological entities
- Settings of heaven, hell, or the afterlife
- Reincarnations, reanimation, necromancy, or creation of life
- Ghosts or spirits
- Traps or reverse traps (i.e. boys dressed as girls, or girls dressed as boys)
- Romance, crushes or overly intimate scenes between characters of the same sex
- Gender-ambiguous characters (like Crona from Soul Eater or Osana from Komi-san Can't Communicate)
- Characters that change genders
- Characters that claim to be a gender they're not
- Intense kissing scenes
- Characters dressed in exaggeratedly skimpy or skin-tight outfits

I actually found more than I thought I would, haha. Of course it's been awhile since I've watched some of these so my memory is a little fuzzy on details; some of the shows listed MIGHT have one of the no-no's I listed above. If so please do let me know.* Also do read the synopsis of any anime you're planning to watch to get a better idea on what it's about, and what features in it.

*NOTE: Again, just the ones I listed above! Do not bother me if you're going to tell me this show has magic or that show has boys and girls touching. YES, I know those things are haram in real life, but be reasonable; these are shows created by non-Muslims ABOUT non-Muslims FOR non-Muslims, so you can't expect to find anything that obeys Sharia law here! If you're worried because an anime has young women not wearing hijab then again, maybe just don't watch anime. This is for those Muslim anime fans who would just like a good story or wholesome entertainment without all the sexual and atheistic nonsense that the modern non-Muslim audience doesn't have a problem with.
Mushishi
TV, 2005, 26 eps Me:- Author:10
Magical realism, zen, episodic.

Very chill and beautiful with a likable main character. Watch it when you want to unwind and de-stress.
Yakusoku no Neverland
TV, 2019, 12 eps Me:- Author:10
Psychological mystery thriller with mind games similar to what you see in Death Note.

Note: There are creatures in this show that the characters refer to as "demons", but they're not demons in the sense of being from hell or having immortal powers (unlike in Death Note for example where the shinigami are actual "gods of death").
Tanoshii Muumin Ikka
TV, 1990, 78 eps Me:- Author:10
Children's fantasy, slice of life, episodic with some longer arcs.

Yes it's an old kid's show but it's sooooo fun and creative, and the characters are very likable! Just stay away from the fandom, the show itself is absolutely clean but the fandom, not so much.
Ashita no Joe
TV, 1970, 79 eps Me:- Author:10
Sports, drama

Old but gold! There's probably a lot of halal old anime but I haven't watched many, however I do know that THIS one and its sequel deserve to be watched, it's amazing!
Barakamon
TV, 2014, 12 eps Me:- Author:10
Slice of life, episodic

One of the most wholesome anime ever and my favorite slice-of-life.

Note: One of the characters is a fujoshi (though she denies being one) so there are some jokes about male characters being in romantic relationships, but that's just her seeing things. Also this wasn't adapted in the anime, but in the original manga there's a character whose father dresses like a woman.
Id:Invaded
TV, 2020, 13 eps Me:- Author:9
Sci-fi, mystery

Diving into the minds of serial killers to solve cases - I highly recommend this one if you love cool sci-fi mysteries that don't give all the answers right away!

There's two instances of non-consensual kissing but they don't last long and are not portrayed "sexually"... you'll understand when you watch the show.
Boku dake ga Inai Machi
TV, 2016, 12 eps Me:- Author:9
Drama, mystery

Time travel mystery, will keep you on the edge of your seat every episode!
Chihayafuru
TV, 2011, 25 eps Me:- Author:9
Sports, slice of life

Wholesome and fun sports anime about a Japanese card game. It's crazy how they'll suck you in with it!

Note: Small bit of romance with characters having unrequited crushes, and a bit of a love triangle, but it's not the focus of the show and nothing inappropriate.
Haikyuu!!
TV, 2014, 25 eps Me:- Author:9
Sports anime about volleyball. Wholesome portrayal of boy friendships!
Sakamichi no Apollon
TV, 2012, 12 eps Me:- Author:9
Slice of life, drama

Some focus on music, as the main characters bond over their love of jazz.
Sora yori mo Tooi Basho

CGDCT, slice of life

Four girls take a trip to Antarctica. Wonderful portrayal of girl friendships!

Locked room mysteries, episodic arcs with an over-arching story.

Y'all probably already seen this show at least once, especially if you're Arab. XD

Note: Some instances of boys seeing girl's underwear (almost always by accident except in the first episode), not shown to the viewer.
Usagi Drop
TV, 2011, 11 eps Me:- Author:9
Slice of life, child rearing

Obligatory "don't search up the manga ending" warning. Just take it for what it is on its own, which is a very cute and wholesome child-rearing story.

Note: An illegitimate sexual relation is mentioned a few times.
Spy x Family
TV, 2022, 12 eps Me:- Author:9
Comedy, episodic

Note: There is one character that is overly obsessive of his sister, but since obsessing is all he does I think it's okay.
Bakuman.
TV, 2010, 25 eps Me:- Author:9
Slice of life, soft drama

This show has a focus on art and drawing, as it's about two boys who want to become mangaka.

Note: I think there's like, two kisses in the whole show (and not too intense), and though there is romance it's like one of the most halal romances I've seen in literally anything XD.
There are a few talks about ecchi things (because it's about the manga and seiyuu business and things like panty shots and photo books apparently do a lot for popularity in those industries, smh) but the characters themselves don't partake in anything like that.
Buddy Daddies
TV, 2023, 12 eps Me:- Author:8

Sports, grunge, drama

Based on Ashita no Joe, set in an alternate reality that combines boxing with robotic enhancements.

Tsuritama
