I haven't seen many animes so far, I've watched around 30, so I didnt feel ready to start ranking and reviewing, but I have to start somewhere.
Okay so, I can completely understand the majority of the reviews saying this is a generic anime with shallow characters, but it mostly worked for me. Keep in mind that the fact that I haven't seen many animes makes it easier to me to like cliche elements, due to that I haven't seen them that much on screen, so I'm more likely to enjoy things that more experienced people have already watched a thousand times and don't find them interesting, so, with that said, here's my review.
I'm not gonna lie, my main reason to start the show was the ship between Yu and Mika. I'm a sucker for romance, specially BL, but I'm also more of a shounen type of person rather than a shoujo one, I love a relationship that is born in a thrilling world, a world where you need to fight for your life, meaning that the couple is not just there, the two of them will do anything to protect each other, and I think that's the best part of a romance. So combining this two elements, my favority type of story should be the result. And I say should, because even if I did enjoy it, as I said earlier, I can recognize its flaws.
Story: The story is mainly a generic shounen, where in a post apocalyptic world, humans have to fight against vampires to survive. There are though, some mysteries that are never fully explained, this obviously has to do with the fact that the anime isn't finished, and I havent read the manga, but I think that in the two seasons we got, the story was pretty undeveloped. The only thing we know is that Yu and Mika were experimented on in the orphan place they were raised, and that there is a thing called seraph of the end where krul, guren, and basically everyone is involved but we never fully understand how, what we know is that krul protected Yu and Mika when she was supposed to kill them, given that the seraph of the end was a weapon that humans were preparing to use against vampires, so they had to stop them, but they couldn't. There's also this thing with demons and how they can posses people, but how that works its also pretty confusing. We see yu dying, being resurrected by her demon after she says all his organs were destroyed and she couldn't do anything to save him, but he just continues living like nothing ¿), then he's completely possesed by his demon and after we are told that he is gonna lose his humanity, he just goes back to himself. We also dont know what happened with Guren, though I'm pretty sure that was suppossed to be explained later, but that leaves us again with nothing but questions.
Despite everything I just said, I did enjoy the story. As I said before, the little amount of anime I watch helps me to be satisfied with less than other people. I was enterteined for the most part and I enjoyed all the training parts, Yu's seek for revenge, Yu and mika's reencounter, Mika's dicotomy where he hates vampires for killing his family and turning him, but also hates humans because "they use people and dont really care for them".
Characters: Yes, they might be shallow, but I just love the dynamic between yu and mika, i dont care what you say. The story builds up showing you memories of them as kids, and combines it with showing them in the present, Yu thinking that mika is dead and seeking for revenge, and also fighting against his enormous guilt for abandoning him. On the other hand we have Mika, who wants to save Yu and has nothing more than think of him since he became a vampire. I can not tell you how my heart raced at the end of season 1 when they finally met again. That feelling repeated itself everytime they saw each other. I just love them.
Well, I'm tired of writing and I suck at it, I probably didnt even made a point and I dont think anyone will read this review, and if someone does, they'll think it sucks. I'm not gonna talk about opening, ending, soundtrack, etc, the first two, because I dont really care about them, and the soundtrack because even though I do think it's important, I'm not able to distinguish it, like it just gets mixed up with everything else and I couldnt tell you what I think of it
well thats all now im actually tired of writing this and my fingers hurt, i dont get how people make so long reviews
