As interesting as Kuramerukagari seemed at first and regardless of my initial enthusiasm, it didn't manage to meet my expectations. So much so that I had waited for something to happen throughout the movie. Even though it's not exactly my cup of tea I had to appreciate the atmosphere which reminded me of certain western cartoons from the 1990s and even the CGI sections could have been tolerable but the overall plot is confusing, provides little depth and there is not much of an emotional depth either. It felt like a straight line, from the beginning to the end. I can't just compare this with just about anything since that wouldn't be fair, and I care to admit I find character designs quite captivating, but it wasn't enough.
