Mixed Feelings
Spoiler
You'll either extremely like this anime or be confused af to what's going on. Most of Makoto Shinkai's projects have gained positive reviews and this one doesn't disappoint, but I think this movie makes its animation so good that people forget the entire emotional build-up leading to the climax.

Episode 1 is simple enough. It starts explaining the connection between both the MCs as childhood friends and establishes a connection that leads to a heartwarming reunion between the two where they share a kiss after much struggle. I feel like although episode 1 was only the start it was the best episode out of the three. The emotions built on episode 1 made it feel like the audience could experience what the main character was feeling at the time: Resilience, Frustration, and Relief were all found present. This episode gives heartwarming emotions and was the reason why I didn't drop the movie.

Episode 2 is where things start to get confusing. The entire episode comes from the perspective of a girl who fell in love with the MC in High School and how he could never reciprocate those feelings. The most confusing part of this episode comes from the lack of character development and the existing relationship between both of the main characters of this movie. I know that the director wanted to establish how vague and half-hearted their relationship becomes, but it is never described to the audience enough which makes it very confusing. The animation and the scenery in this episode make the whole movie look so beautiful even if the plot isn't

Episode 3 tries to establish this connection, but fails to do so as their relationship becomes more vague. The main characters realize that they still love each other after all these years, but know that they can never be together. It does give some affection towards the main character and how he can't let go of his feelings for her which is tragic. This made the movie heartbreaking towards the end and what made it so enjoyable. While the girl moves on in this story, the boy doesn't applying emotion into Shinkai's project.

Because of it's beautiful animation and somewhat confusing plot, it's a hit or a miss depending on who you are. If you like romance or shows that end sad, but beautiful you'll like this movie a lot.
