Naruto Shippuden my favorite anime before you start hating on me.
If you want to finish one piece and ignore the horrible pacing, I advise you to read the manga for the story and watch the anime for the battles. The manga is perhaps the reason the show is so popular and is 3 times faster to finish than the actual show. My friend did this and he got caught up in the show in about a month.
One Piece is one of the most creative shows in all of history, if not the most. This anime is UNFATHOMABLE when it comes to uniqueness. Oda does such a good job at portraying a variety of characters through backstories like Nico Robin's and Trafalgar D Water Law's. The creativity doesn't stop at just characters, but the humor in One Piece is so funny, especially Pre-Time Skip. It shows how much work Oda has put into making sure One Piece can exhibit all the traits that make it one of the best animanga series. Yet, this isn't even the most fascinating thing about the show. The Worldbuilding in One Piece is the BEST in all of fiction, decimating media like ATLA, LOR, and Harry Potter. Oda's utilization of Islands as checkpoints allows for the world to constantly expand leading to more new stories and settings which never get tiring. One Piece's creativity stands out as the best in all of animanga.
I enjoy One Piece greatly and it won Best Continuing Series for a reason, but it doesn't come without its flaws. The major issue of One Piece comes from its pacing and repetitiveness at times throughout the show. The most notable arcs that have these flaws are Syrup Village, Fishman Island, and the first half of Wano. I realized that throughout the show the artists were purposefully prolonging the show to let Oda write more, especially during Wano and Egghead. This differs from usual shows like Bleach or Naruto which use fillers to allow Kubo and Kishimoto respectfully to have time to write their arcs.
The second major flaw stemming from One Piece is the lack of character development or rather the receding character development. While I do enjoy One Piece's comedy, sometimes the comedy becomes so overwhelming that it hurts a character's personality. Prime examples of this are Sanji and Usopp who are multifaceted at the beginning of the show to Sanji being shown as a total perv instead of showing respect to ladies like when he wanted the Clear-Clear Fruit for obscene purposes or Usopp always being portrayed as weak and even when he shows some hint of bravery, it never clearly explains how he has progressed from his past.
While I do know there have been times where I questioned to drop the show like during Dressrosa, Fishman Island, and Wano, I still enjoy One Piece so greatly that I can't give anything less than a 9. Try not to focus on where you are at in the show too much because most people when they catch up wish that there were more content.
Also, the anime is in it's final saga, so most of the show is heading to the final stage. This is perhaps the best time to start getting caught up on One Piece. It's a must watch!
