I read the Ao Ashi manga in fall of 2020. I think I started it while in the middle of some zoom class or the other, but it very quickly consumed all my waking thoughts and it is most certainly my favorite manga ever. When I found out that Ao Ashi was getting an anime adaptation, I was cautiously excited, but mostly my expectations were pretty low.
I think the anime did a great job at adapting the manga. Though it was very shocking to see some characters in full color (cough Kiriki cough), it was great to see them on the small screen. The games were super engaging and fun to watch. I do think some of the more normal seeming things in the manga came off as superpowered in the anime, mostly the way they chose to depict Aoi's vision. It wasn't as bad as it could have been, but not exactly what I'd hoped for. Overall, it was really good and I'd recommend checking out the manga if you liked the anime because it's phenomenal.
