This is a short and spoiler-free review.

Even though I'm familiar with the source material, I was never really a fan of Chainsaw Man manga. Sure, it is surely a fun and quick read, but something that would impress me, especially with its quite poor worldbuilding and bland characters. That's why I didn't have any expectations towards the anime other than just seeing action sequences with good animation. After finishing the anime I must say I was positively surprised, because the anime has managed to provide more than just entertaining looking action.

First of all, I liked how this anime was directed. More realistic approach to direction and animation added artism that the source material lacked, at least in my opinion. High quality visuals mixed made this "movie-like" feeling even stronger.

Music is another thing I enjoyed. Sounds in the anime were good, but where this show shone the most was by the end of all 12 episodes, because each episode got its own fully unique ending theme. It's rare to see such treatment in the world of anime.

Sure, many elements could've been done better or simply could've been polished more (like, in example, CGI sequences or few scenes with characters walking that looked more as if they were wobbling), but nevertheless Chainsaw Man anime presents quality higher than most of regular, seasonal animes.

Some time ago I read that Chainsaw Man anime is "passion project" for MAPPA. After seeing the first season of its anime adaptation, I can say I agree. You could really feel the passion and care to deliver unique and simply amusing show.

Edit (8th January 2023): I added the information about this review's character (short and spoiler-free).
