So I read some of the manga a few years back. Never got around to continuing it but it was such a fun read. From what I remember, so far this is turning out to be a very well-done adaptation. They haven't cut corners in any of the important areas. The pacing has been excellent so far with solid voice acting and sound effects. The soundtrack hasn't shown much to stand out and is about average but it gets the emotions across. Episode 1 was perfect, it made me cry. The manga didn't get me to cry.

I don't remember that 'stimulation shiver' being a thing from the book, but I can see how it is useful for this anime to show that It is retaining strong stimuli.

If they've turned this into an anime then maybe there is still hope for +Anima and Alive: The Final Evolution! Here's to hoping!
