Alright, this is going to be my first review here because I feel that the other reviews for this anime aren't really all that good. I should mention that I haven't played the mobile game so I don't know any differences from the mobile game. I had low expectations watching this anime due to the low user score. I initially tried to watch this series over a year ago but I was turned off by the fanservice in the first episode. However, after watching this again I have gained a liking for this anime.

This anime has a mix of action and slice of life scenes. If you really don't like slice of life you may not like this anime due to the considerable amount of these scenes in between the action. You may also not like this anime if you dislike or are annoyed by sexual fanservice easily since there are many scenes depicting the characters sexually. However, I will go into more detail about this point later on.

The story was so-so, the two factions Azur Lane and Crimson Axis fight against each other and against the sirens. Not exactly original, but they do bring some interesting things to the table when they fight. There isn't much outcome after each battle (particularly in the first half) but there are definitely surprises later on. This lack of outcome doesn't stop the fights from being interesting though. Personally, it didn't bother me. It really does feel like the creators put some care and effort into this anime.

The artwork and animation are well done. The characters are expressed very well and the animation is stunning at times. It's more average during the fight scenes though. The sound effects fit it and are well enough.

The characters are wonderful and interesting and have unique personalities. Some of them have deeper backstories than what they seem like on the surface. I felt bad for the "villains" towards the end of the series after being apathetic towards them near the beginning. Ayanami and Javelin/Laffey's relationship during the series is cute and sweet. The characters are very likeable and if you like cute/friendly girl characters you'll love them here.

Alright, time to talk about the fanservice. The girls are often shown in revealing outfits or have their panties exposed, etc. There are also times where the girls are doing some sexually suggestive things to each other just because. There's also an episode where a significant portion of the episode is spent showing the girls bathing fully nude and exposed with their breasts fully visible (at least in the uncensored version), including the loli characters. I did find it annoying at times when these girls were shown sexually, particularly during the fight scenes. However, some of the sexual scenes went far, and that bath scene was so completely off the wall that it was honestly funny how far they went with that. I saw someone say that the bath scene wasn't very good fanservice, and I can't disagree more with that statement. The only thing that was really bad about it in that regard is that it only showed the Azur Lane girls and none of the Crimson Axis girls. But if you can tolerate that and have wild dreams about these girls then this scene is a real treat for you. However, if the idea of seeing these girls sexually really repels you, then this anime probably isn't for you.

Overall, this anime was definitely not the mediocre/awful garbage that some people claim. It's definitely not something that blew me away, but it's fairly good. If you really like nice characters acting sweet or being depicted sexually, you'll like this anime. If you really don't like the characters than you probably won't like it.
