I really, really wanted to like this show, but I honestly could not name one thing that makes it anything more than oppressively bland. The premise has so much possibility, but the writing consistently feels like the bare minimum and the art is unexpressive and simplistic. The characters each have exactly one personality trait (if that, I swear most of them just exist to fill space), the dialogue is painfully basic and drags on without meaning, and the story has no underlying sense of... Anything, really. There is no depth, emotion, or even a sense of discovery after the first episode. The main character doesn't even seem to care about learning the details of the world she's in if it isn't relevant to bookmaking, and consistently just accepts the existence of things like weird plants, enigmatic knights and nobles, and /actual magic/ without making any effort to know more about them. How could someone who lusts for books not jump at the chance to learn about an entire fantasy world??? On top of that, every time she is about to experience the culture of her new world she passes out and misses it, and the story goes right back to books. The only explanation I have is that the author didn't have the setting fleshed out enough to give her anything to learn -- which definitely tracks given that the little information the viewer gets about the setting doesn't even make much sense half the time.
All in all, this show is a dismal failure I really expected better from.
