"Tamen de Gushi is the epitome of wholesome yuri." - Some redditor

To which I also agree with.

I don't tend to read a lot of manhuas but when I do I somehow end on the good side of things, then being able to immerse myself in what are some of the most pleasing stories I have ever seen. Anyways, SQ Begin w Your Name (will abbreviate to SQ) checks out as it is one of, if not, the best shoujo-ai story I have seen in a while.

The points that make SQ so great is that it follows a simple love tale that knows nothing but delightful emergence. It slowly treks down a road of a school tale, not taking too much time to focus on anything, but not speeding through for reasons such as ambition. It's like one of those vaporwave cars driving in the 80s or some time period like that. I really cannot see any other problem with this story other than it doesn't have a lot to sell, I suppose it comes down to a question of tastes but considering fans of this genre, there is honestly nothing flawed about this in my eyes. I suppose why I won't call this a masterpiece is because it doesn't actually embellish on simplicity, sometimes there are extra side plots that have little coherence to the actual plot in play, though you could look at that as extra school life elaboration. I honestly, don't have a clue, nothing is bad here.

The same can be said with the characters. I find that each individual feels like another person you could feasibly interact with as if they were real-life people. I don't remember having memories of someone here being forced or plastic in any way, just normal people. I suppose there is no personality that shines, given the context here, but that doesn't really seem like a bad thing to me. What really comes out as striking is how they behave really. These are characters to be remembered for the long run because they are that captivating in this story. Also, the chemistry with these characters is really good, making for some real interactions between the characters and something you wouldn't quite see elsewhere. I have no real criticism for characters, so I will leave it at that they are great.

The art is really good. Obviously, this has origins from a different country, so culture may have an impact on style, but this didn't seem to be the entire case. The characters look like normal people, with no exaggerations in any kind of aspect. With Japan, you have shoujo style, Korea you have the unreal hot guys, China has the BL kinda guys, mixed with Korean, you know the ones. SQ seems to have its own style though, mixing cuteness with realism making for some lovely visual presentation. The use of colour is there to elevate the real-world atmosphere, it is more used to make the manhua look more real-life, rather than artificially shiny if you understand what I mean. Overall, it is pretty damn good in the art aspect.

I enjoyed this, a lot. For some reason, it is hard for people to make a fluffy wholesome romance, and by that, I mean the kind that understands what real development looks like. Not every day you get romance like this and it is the kinda stuff people would die for to see more of. I would imagine universally this will fly with everyone because it isn't just completely romance, there are the fun school life aspects to go along with. There seems to be a bit of everything that would make for a romance of its kind work so well.

I would recommend to anyone looking for a good romance to read through SQ, put it up there as a must-read, it may even be your first manhua considering how niche the sector is it is for animanga fans. Honestly, shoutout to this story. Would also like to note how I am actually on Ch 201, and this is an ongoing webcomic. MAL guidelines is being funky so I thought I would note what I going on with the webcomic in real-time. Also, there hasn't been a new chapter for a while which kinda sucks, but this still works well even to the latest chapter, just waiting on the ending now I suppose.

Overall - 8.5 (9)

Anyways, considering it is pride month, I found no real reason to decline the chance to review this LGBT manhua on the month. I didn't actually plan this, and I think I read this in May, I can't remember, but hey, why not do it now. Happy pride month people.
