As an ardent anime fan since 1990 brought ROBOTECH to the USA via Harmony Gold's VHS dub I'm the 3rd oldest anime fan I know. I've met a 55 y/o guy and a 50 y/o guy online via various chat rooms etc. so this show is right up my alley.
BEWARE!!! THIS SHOW IS FILLED WITH UNCENSORED!!! TITTIES, NIPS, BARE ASSES, LEWD BEHAVIOR, PANTY SHOTS, AND IMPLIED PEDOPHILIA! No vaginas were drawn on any girls, but lots of camel toes are shown, and no 'elephants' were photographed in the making of this 1st season. But plenty of the 'elephants' get SERIOUSLY injured! One girl basically performs obvious fellatio on a peeled banana for almost four minutes straight in one episode.
BTW, FYI ep7... if you didn't already know... from timecode 14:35-14:37 the huge chunky thug with the long brown hair wearing a Hawaiian shirt... he's holding up the parts of a 'classic' Japanese Yochien/Kindergarten school uniform. They are: a bright yellow rain-hat, a big blue smock, and a bright yellow over the shoulder satchel. This implies dude's a lolicon... sometimes known as a pedophile.
As you've probably read other reviews with better synopsis of the show than used here on S1 and S2... doofus writers here on MAL used the exact same synopsis for both seasons. So I'll just give you yet another synopsis that's actually dang detailed and correct!
MC is a short 2nd year in HS boy, his mom n dad moved away from his HUGE HUGE Western Style home to work overseas, so he's all alone in this big big house. So for the 2000's in Japan they were g-dang RICH! He's allergic to girls due to a psychosomatic disorder (probably PTSD trauma). Because he's been abused by girls since he was in kindergarten. Poor guy breaks out in itchy hives whenever he's even randomly touched by a girl. Thing is, even all this abuse hasn't truly killed this little guy's spirit. His neighbor girl, and long time 'friend' since they were little is the classic: short haired, crazy athletic, big busomed, DSG meanie. She's got a secret sweet spot in her heart for the MC. But she is CONSTANTLY beating the crap outta the MC for the slightest 'ecchi' accident that happens! She's basically the 'big sis' that every guy HATES to have in his life! She's so overly 'friendly' she even just waltzes into his house with a key and without a care. She's so 'friendly' that in episode 1, for the second day in a row, she's bathing in his shower/tub because the bath in her home broke 2 days earlier. Since her house is right next door... BOTH parents gotta be richy-riches... but they can't call a plumber to fix a bath within 2 days? hmm!? suspicious much!?! Both kids' parents never show up on screen in Season1 but the MC's 'friend' says,
"I'm going over to his house now mom!" in one scene so it's implied her mom is at least at their house one time. Of course our MC walks in on a totally nude, and incredibly hot scene, with her bathing and she knocks him senseless and into the bathtub. Suddenly the water shines blindingly bright blue and our MC goes POOF!
To another Secret Planet so close to Earth that it hangs in their sky even bigger than our Moon looks to us! A pretty (and even more buxom than the MC's 'childhood friend') nude pink haired girl with three small red dots on her forehead is bathing in her HUGE HUGE HUGE bath when our MC appears out of the blue glowing water! The waters of her bath have been showing her images of our MC from time to time and she's quite fascinated, happy, and welcomes her visitor from another world. Yes, our new friend is a ditz, but she is incredibly friendly, happy, and loves loves LOVES food! Strangely enough, this new alien girl does NOT set off our MC's allergies?!?
But, our new alien girl has a va va voom! older sister who meets them... well... ;) fully clothed guy in their bath, her nude little sister, u catch my drift what the alien big sis thinks! But what does she do?
"Oh! It's a boy! And! He's SO DAMN CUTE!" so the alien big sis nearly chokes our MC to death with her big boobies and promises to "Steal him away to a heavenly bliss filled world of pleasure all our own!" This sets off his rash so we know it is not just because our PHG is an alien that she's special. The PHG saves the MC and they make a mad dash out of her house. /yes somehow she puts her clothes on in the bath via the magic of video editing/ Here and there the PHG explains she knows the Planet in their sky is called Earth and she really really wanted to visit there someday. But she didn't know how to do it. Maybe she's that big of a ditz? Maybe this Secret Planet has no space travel? Or is there ANOTHER SECRET!? PHG also explains to our MC that only TEN PERCENT of their Planet's population is male.
"Men are an endangered species on our planet and ALL the girls fight over them like they're going to WAR!" So of course the ladies of this town notice there's a boy in town! Even itty bitty little girls who look like they're five years old cling to our MC and beg him to,
"Mawwy Me! Mawwy Me!" Yet again setting off the MC's hives.
A huge huge foot-chase ensues and our newly minted couple end up BACK at the PHG's house and BACK in her bath. The waters start to shine dimly blue and we see an image and sounds of our MC's 'childhood friend' wearing nothing but a towel crying in his bathroom about him disappearing! The PHG big sis shows up ahead of the pack of man-hungry women and a wrestling match in the bath shoves our MC and his new PHG down through the 'portal'. They POOF! back into his bathroom scaring the crap out of his 'childhood friend'. She of course clobbers our MC just because. So all that! and other stuffs! happens in episode ONE! :>
So the PHG and our MC move in together because they don't know how to get her back home, this young budding couple and his childhood friend get to know each-other, even to the point of the PHG going to their High School. Lots of funny stuff happens. An uber rich, older student at their school, blond !!!Super Pervert!!! guy pops up now n again. He's got an exact opposite allergy than the MC... his hives show up when he's touched by a man! His blond, whacked out mentally, black magician little sister shows up thinking she's our MC's soul mate. Because of a radio talk-show's astrology report for the day describes 3 Items our MC is carrying when they accidentally bump into each other. Yes magic works in this show. But it is blown off as 'pooh pooh that's fake' on Earth, even though it works! But the aliens on the Secret Planet study magic, if they've got the innate talent.
More alien girls show up, a magic crystal lets them move from their Planet to Earth with some constraints. One is a 'classic Japanese beauty'. Shy personality, long black hair, pale white skin, slender curvy body, and a mad mad mad fear of males. But strangely enough her memories of her daddy tell her HE'S FROM EARTH!? The classic loud mouthed, rude, high opinion of herself, loli magic user shows up from the Secret Planet too. This little girl shows up with a little cute seal-like mascot animal with pom-pom tipped antennae. Somehow it snuck into her backpack and it only makes, of course, cute Pokemon-like noises when it talks.
The PHG gets excited sometimes and accidentally blows stuff up a little bit with some weird unexplained power. They're just small explosions with a big POOF! of Pink Smoke. Not unlike a slightly more powerful illusionists' trick on stage. Small delicate items like: window pane glass, china/ceramic dishes/cups, clothes, and hair get messed up broken and singed.
The black magician little sister has a male and female servant and both are highly skilled intelligence agents, spies, marksmen, and fighters. But her female servant is a sex deprived lesbian who wants to devour pretty younger girls. Especially the MC's childhood friend, that female servant REALLY wants to 'girl rape' his childhood friend!
NOW. a review. :> TLDR folks? too bad! ;)
art. Quite standard for the era. Top notch at times, nude scenes and closeups of the girls in swimsuits and sexy lingerie especially! Yes the background art is sketchy at times, but it is STUPENDOUS at other times. Character designs are QUITE tweaked from the eye-catcher manga images shown in-between commercial breaks.
story. In one word, FUN! There's no real point to much of the 1st season. There's a few multi-episode story arcs but overall there's not a linear A B C D story. This show's just about FUN!
sound. Funimation/Geneon picked GREAT talents to work on this show's Dub! The sound effects/foley are well done! The OP/EP tunes are good! The insert songs/ambiance tunes are great too!
characters. FUN! hahah! There's not a crazy huge amount of development from Meeting somebody till Season's End. Backstories are shared for all the central cast via conversations and a good amount of flashbacks to give a little more depth to each one. Except the loli alien girl, she gets VERY little backstory, just a few lines here and there.
enjoyment and overall. This show is FUN! the sexy stuff, the goofy stuff, the bits and pieces of tragic stuff, the situations everybody gets into. This is a show for a 'private viewing' because of the sexy stuff, unless your fellow audience members are ok to you and them about raunchy stuff on screen. But it is light-hearted, funny, and entertaining. If you're blue, watch this show! I hope it gives you a smirk or a grin or a chuckle or even two!
