I confess that before playing on the first episode I was quite sure that this would be my first "dropped" of the year. That said, without any expectations, Hibike! Euphonium was definitely the best surprise I could have in my year, at least so far. Although he does not have one of the most captivating plots in the world, Hibike proved himself worthy of note for his “special” characters and for a gentle romance that guides the story with mastery and delicacy worthy of a symphony.

Although in another context and scenario, I studied a lot about sheet music and had a good time with super talented musicians in my school years. This brought me a certain familiarity with the anime theme and, at the same time, concern with the way that the studio would animate all the details that involve playing an instrument.

I feel guilty for having even considered that Kyoto, responsible for one of my favorite animations and, by the way, has one of the most beautiful animations of the decade (Violet Evergarden), would not be able to fulfill this mission with praise.

The level of detail of the strumming required on each type of instrument is REALLY scary because it is so accurate. It is completely adorable to see the moments when the band rehearsed together and, even more, to realize that the sounds were built in such an incredible way that it was noticeable when something was out of place. This shows how the execution of Kyoto Animation was, once again, impeccable.

But, in addition to the technical musical details, I mention how absurd the evolution of Kumiko has been throughout history, since, at first, it was not at all interesting. However, when interacting with so many characters with unique personalities and infinite density Kumiko became a great protagonist and someone extremely interesting to meet. Among the various characters, it was indeed a pleasure to meet Asuka-senpai and Reina-chan.

Both have this magnificent brilliance (perhaps due to the fact that they seem indifferent to the avalanche of problems that occur in the anime or their simple natural talent) that is able to steal the show and yield some of the most exciting minutes in the series. Especially Reina, who starred in scenes from such a complex and light novel. In fact, this is another factor that leads me to embrace Hibike with everything I can, romance. In Midori-chan's words, love is the beginning of every great composition. And the way the novel is built and worked here is so sublime and smooth that it almost sounds like Reina's trumpet, warm as a hug.

And although this is not one of my favorite animations, it deserves a place of honor in my heart for having inspired me so much. I am excited to consume the remaining materials from this beautiful universe.
