The good:
- Yasuke is an interesting and likable melancholic hero who I wish was more developed.
- A fair amount the sword choreography uses full animation and actually resembled aspects of real Japanese swordsmanship instead being 100% stylized.
- The music is solid and creates many unique moods even though it doesn't always fit what's happening on screen.
- Much of the background art looks great and is very nicely detailed.
The Bad:
- The series needed more episodes to allow for stronger character development and world building.
- Cliche and underdeveloped secondary and tertiary characters.
- Dialogue and writing leaves much to be desired.
- Noticeable pacing and continuity errors perhaps due to a limited scope and budget.
- Quality of the character art is very uneven.
