A cute chibi animation based of the spin-off gag manga by Kanaineko.
I am a huge fan of Bungo Stray Dogs so this review maybe quite biased;) But I believe in order to really enjoy BSD Wan! is to have watched all seasons of the original main series.
There are 12 episodes in total each being around 11 minutes each. Firstly the character designs are so adorable. We get to see people that normally don’t meet each other have interactions. We also get a better understanding of each individual’s personality’s, this makes the certain characters who normally don’t have much screen time stand out. The emotions, and chaotic energy each character prevails is delivered so well by the Japanese voice actors.
There are many wholesome and memorable moments, as well a special episodes such as Chuuya and Dazai as 14 year olds, a preschool segment and the Dark era which are all very nostalgic. I would say Episodes 1-9 were very funny, and would like to give a little warning that the last 3 episodes are quite emotional, however it does wrap up nicely in the end.
The sound track is also very comedic, and the ending outro is a nice little nod back to the original S1 ending track but sang by Atsushi’s voice actor in a more cheerful way. The outro animation also changes from time to time depending on what happens in that episode so please don’t skip it!
As a fan, I looked forward to each week for the new episode to air, and honestly it provided great humour and joy. Its sweet and short so I’ll probably rewatch it here and then. I was never quite ready for a S4 of BSD so this was a perfect way to provide content for those who have been longtime fans of the series. I hope we will get to see more of Wan! in the future:)
