Well if you know your history, you know this movie isn't going to be sunshine and rainbow because it is set in Japan, 1944. Despite all that, I was surprised by how sweet this movie ended, how it circled around to end where it started and gave us great closure to such a love story that I didn't expect it to have.

There is a saying that goes - History is written by the victor. And this movie speaks from the losing side POV and it was done wonderfully. Though not capturing the army perspective but the people living ordinary life caught up in the war. Some supportive of the war and others just wants to go on with their life. This is their story.

In all, this was a wonderful movie that was worth the watch but I do have some issue with this movie that is why I couldn't give it a 10/10.

Early on I had a hard time trying to follow the story because it was jumping everywhere. Especially the first 45 minutes it was all over the place and it was hard to really know who was who either. The animation style took a bit to get used too, but towards the end, I enjoyed it. I didn't have a issue with it at the end, but it took a bit to get used to it.
The plot was slow at the start because when I first watched it, I dropped it. I later decided to picked it up again and continue where I left off and I'm glad I did. I think the early parts is slow, because not much as happening and the pacing of the anime is very slow. Towards the second half, it really sets up the character and really then does the story progress forward at a better pace. Apart from those minor things that might turn off some viewers, it's worth a watch and just gotta be patient.
