If you're one to judge a book by its cover, then at first glance, Tonikawa appears to be an interesting romance manga. But after going through a few chapters, you start to realize that it isn't what you thought. Instead of an interesting romance manga with character development, relationship development and depth/substance, you see a pattern of nonsense equal to a longer version of a 4-koma. For me, I thought it felt familiar and saw the person who made it: Hata Kenjirou! I knew it!
That's right, much like his 10 year long, going nowhere fast romance manga Hayate Combat Butler, Tonikawa too is following in Hayate's footsteps. Of course, it's different: We have a relationship to kickoff things instead, but the same stale stagnant writing attached to well drawn characters that Hata loves to do. So I was pretty disappointed to say the least because chapter after chapter after chapter after volume, the relationship of the two man characters goes absolubely nowhere.
So if you are looking for a romance manga with no depth or substance outside of moe moe fluff fluff, where the romance between these two is similar to the "romance" between two little kids then you'll enjoy this. But if you are looking for a serious romance with characters that are memorable, that undergo development overtime and deal with other things we see in a realistic relationship, look elsewhere.
It isn't worth trying.
