Does this movie deserve the ten? Nah

...

BUT WHO FREAKIN' CARES

So obviously I really like this movie. This is everything I wanted out of No Game No Life in the first place. Action, drama, emotion and intensity. It feels like with the series the creators were playing a game of tic-tac-toe, but when they came to the movie they said "Okay guys, time to start taking this seriously" and moved onto chess. I'm going to jump right into why I like this movie so much and why it really needs to be in the top 100 instead of trash like Tenki no Ko.

Let me just say that this movie is ABSOLUTELY EPIC. This movie does everything a prequel should do. It gives us context, introduces us to how the characters met, and reveals a lot about the origin of certain connections between events and people. Right off the bat we are introduced to an interesting setting and I for one was dying to see what was going to happen next. And wouldn't you know it, IT WAS EPIC. The story is executed flawlessly and, unlike the series, has little to no fan-service. The art is absolutely stunning. It reminds me a lot of Angel Beats!, only here the animation is consistently incredible beginning to end. I like that the soundtrack is a bit more of a cinematic, orchestral style rather than the standard electric/pop/piano music you get in most animes. Totally EPIC. The characters are fine. They're not particularly special but they're still pretty good. Obviously I loved every second of this movie. The only thing holding me back from tears near the end was my nine-year-old sister sitting next to me. EPIC.

I have a few nitpicks. In terms of creativity the romance and concept aren't as unique. There are a lot of movies with similar concepts and ideas. Also there was one very SaCrElIgEoUs scene that annoyed me. But that's mostly because my religious self is picky about how my sacramental rites are performed, so I won't dock any points for it. The only other things are that the soundtrack can sound like a star wars ripoff at times and the characters aren't particularly special or unique.

But that's all trivial nonsense. This movie is so EPIC and beautiful and intense and EPIC that, even though it deserves a nine, I'm gonna pull a Riku, defy logic, and smack that ten. Seriously though, this movie is absolutely incredible. It really is the most EPIC anime movie I have seen so far and I can't wait to see how they follow up with this in the second season of the anime. A must-watch if you've seen the series and an EPIC installment in the history of anime prequels.
