WorldEnd had so much potential to be great. However, it suffered from being rushed and failing to fully flesh out characters and the world in a sensible manner. This prevented me from ever actually feeling emotionally connected with the characters. Supposedly the Light Novel is much better so I would suggest reading that FIRST as it actually explains everything without gaping plot holes. The anime is better served as eye candy for the people who understand the author's original vision.
The anime wasn't so bad that I dropped it, I actually quite enjoyed what made sense in the story, some of the characters were likable, there was some really wonderful dialogue, and the animation and sound quality were decent. However, because I didn't feel emotionally connected to the characters, many parts, especially the ending, felt forced and awkward. Hopefully one day they remake this into the dramatic masterpiece it could have been.
