This movie is not good by any means, let me get that out of the way. It is merely an extension pack for the first season. While it may mask itself as its own arc, in the end, nothing major changes in the overall plot of their world, so it's basically just there so the viewer can see the characters they love fro the first season interacting.

Let me start with my biggest complaint. This is the most confusing movie of all time. They travel through different timelines every five minutes, different characters know and forget certain things in different timelines, I'm pretty sure every major character dies and comes back to life like Jesus Christ himself at least 3 times, and there are numerous plotholes.

For example, let me give you just one scenario. Makinohara has two selves, one in middle school, and one from the future, but they both exist in the present. The only reason the one from the future can come back to the present is because MC-Kun gives his heart to the Makinohara who is actually from the present, so when MC-Kun tries to give present Makinohara his heart by essentially killing himself, bunny girl saves him and kills herself, which also saves Makinohara because she gets bunny girl's heart, but then MC-Kun goes back in time and desperately tries to get people to see him and no one can. But then the Kohai girl can see him, then apparently everyone can see him for no explained reason. Then he saves himself by killing himself, which then kills Makinohara, but then Makinohara is alive, because ... who knows? like genuinely someone please pm me how she is alive.

Yes, you read all that correctly. No, I'm not on class-A drugs, bit the writers probably were. Anyway, you may think that I just explained that poorly and have no idea what I just shit pasted, but that is just how confusing this movie is, and that isn't even all of the time-traveling and cheating of death that occurs! While the first season built itself upon understandable, yet deep paradoxes that put characters in a sticky situation, this movie is incomprehensible with how many twists and turns there are.

The whole story is based around the dilemma of MC-Kun having to decide between who to save. Each holds their own benefits, and of course their own consequences. I think that the movie really missed a chance to put out a statement on the fact that just about every decision comes with consequences for someone. MC-Kun spends nearly the whole film running around trying to fix the consequences of decisions he made, and then fix the consequences of those consequences. What I'm getting at here, is that consequences are a major theme in this film, and the fact that MC-Kun can't come to terms with the results of his decisions is the main conflict and what causes everything to spiral out of control. However, the ending straight up just ignores this whole premise of MC-Kun having to face the consequences and live with them because, in the end, everyone lives happily ever after and nothing changes! I really don't understand why they didn't just end the movie with Makinohara still dead. This kind of bittersweet ending is what keeps the viewers thinking about your film for days, weeks, maybe even years to come and the various themes it exemplifies. But when you end it just so that it's happy and the fans are happy, it makes the ending seem very half-baked and forced.

For the positives, the animation was pretty decent I guess, it's identical to the first season which was above average I guess. One problem I found with the animation, was the lack of it. Most of the animations were just of characters talking to each other, while slightly moving their eyes, mouth, and neck. This makes the movie feel more like a visual novel than a movie. The backgrounds are for the most part static, but some are pretty good looking. The characters are still pretty likable, but it's hard to notice anything in this movie when you are too busy trying to wrap your brain around who knows what and who's alive and who died to save who. The soundtrack was great, probably the best part of the movie. It picked up at all the right moments, getting the audience to feel something during the sad parts, and overall really turned scenes that wouldn't be emotional otherwise into tearjerkers.

Overall, this movie tries to go over the deep end, and jump into a wormhole of paradoxes and time-traveling stupidity, but it just ends up being so pretentious and poorly explained that it leaves the viewer wondering what happened and why it even happened. The story in the end never progresses anywhere from where it started, AKA the ending of the first season. If you liked the first season you'll probably like this movie too, just because of how well written the characters were, but as a standalone plot, the movie falls apart.
