So, let me get this out of the way first: Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya: Oath Under Snow... is a really awful-looking movie. The budget is clearly strained here even in the simplest of scenes and it's just kinda depressing to look at. This isn't Ufotable, nor is it even close. Whoever was responsible for drawing Shirou couldn't decide what he was supposed to look like, so Shirou looks like three different people throughout a span of like, three shots.

HOWEVER, that massive point aside, it's a very enjoyable movie. A prequel to Prisma Illya that gives some backstory to Miyu and the other, better Shirou, but it's mostly Shirou's story. The story is structured such that you get many setpieces and fights and locations you're familiar with, but in a different context given the nature of this conflict is vastly different from that of Stay Night.

Shirou is, at his core, the same character he was in the VN and has a similar arc to what he does in the VN, with the notable difference that he goes through that arc in one 90-minute story instead of a 100-hour three-route epic. He's also more of a badass here than he ever is in the VN which, honestly, I like. In spite of being the protagonist of Stay Night, Shirou is not the main character of his own story a lot of the time, so it's good to see him get a solo act.

Overall, if you've watched the sinful magical girl show, this is pretty good, even if graphically it is not up to par with what one would expect of a film with a theatrical release.
