As we're already halfway through the series, I have a strong feeling this is going to be epic. So far, everything is going from good to better. There is no filler episode, no passing or useless characters, no lack of action or excitement. Every single episode has been a masterpiece, leaving waves of emotions behind and answering our questions one by one.
There are so many things I love about this anime. You can never predict what is going to happen next. The plot showed us so far that not everything has a happy ending, that life in this period was hell for the poor and despite great efforts to stay alive, nobody had any reassurance that their life was not in danger. It is a dark setting, but also one that gives us hope. We are thaught that in a world of war and poverty, we can still find happiness in small things and we have our loved ones by our side.
The show is full of metaphors which ephasise the loneliness, the dispair but also the strength of the people. We learn that same blood doesn't mean family. On the other hand, we learn that a simple encountering in our life can change it forever, and every single person we meet has a purpose in our life. With this being said, I can objectively confirm that the character development is strong. Every scene that we see and every dialogue has a meaning. Between all the tags that Dororo has, I would say that "psychological" describes it best. Of course, the fantastic elements are also in large numbers but the show doesn't mix reality with fantasy. The realistic part of the show is well preserved (such as history, behaviour) while the fantastic part (demons, superpowers) is also well integrated in between.
I am anxiously waiting for the next episodes to see how the story unflods. At this moment the plot has great potential to become something extraordinary and unique. I am prepared for both a happy and sad ending. This is by far the best show of winter/spring 2019 and I hope it won't let me down in the second half of the series.
