Probably one of the most heartfelt Anime films I have ever seen, dubbed or subtitled, the film shines with a simple story of family, friendship, and forest spirits. The film shows the power of the human spirit and imagination, with the girls enjoying their rural locale and trying to make the most of things with their mother stricken with illness and father busy trying to support them alone as it was. The joys the girls find in the face of adversity shows just how powerful the human spirit can be, seeing the ending is a touch of joy with hints of a brighter future around the corner, validating the hope of our young protagonists. Likely my favourite Ghibli piece slightly edging out the almost equally charming 'Spirited Away' for the title of my Ghibli favourite.
