1 Part: Spoiler Free
This series launch in January and I´m just seen it right now, please don´t make this mistake and watch it NOW. Devilman Crybaby is an anime about a boy named Akira that´s is a crybaby (the title spoils it lol) and also is naive, he lives with his friend/love interest because his parents are doctors travelling around the world. One day his old childhood friend Ryo contact him to hunt demons and in the process Akira is possessed by one, a strong demon named Amon. Well this is a short synopsis that summerize the first episode or so.
The First good thing I can write is the OST, this is one of the best soundtrack I´ve ever listen in an anime, it is a mix between Dupstep and modern music, and one of the song "CryBaby" is a beatiful piece of art that serves as a breaking point in the series as a hole. The second aspect is the characters. Akira is a great character with motivations and even with all of the bad things that happening to him, his ideals do not change in the course of his arc. The other remarkable character is Miki, is a very good person, kinda naive and has one of the most saddest character arc´s (i will discussed in the second spoiler part because this event destroyed me like any live action series/ anime has ever had) I´ve experienced. Ryo is also a tragic character that, at first glance you can think that is kinda shallow and his lack of empathy make it more hateable , but in the end all is explained and why he is like this. There are other side characters that complement the series in a good way, for example, the rap guys always are freestyling about the events around them and their feelings towards it. The art style is kinda off putting at first, but then you realize is perfect the way it is. The only complaint that I have is the pacing in the last episode, i think that at least 1 or 2 more episodes were needed it to balance the rushiness of this 10th episode
I give this series a 9/10 , it was enyoyable and entretaining af, also really depressing and heartbreaking in some moments. Overall if you like gore, tragic histories you will love this series
2 Part SPOILERSSS
I will start with the death of Miki and , dude that death left me mentally ill, i was sobbing when I saw the skewered head of Miki ,and the reaction of Akira was gut wrenching, also the song Crybaby in the background made it more tragic. In general the 9th episode was a dicotomy of humanity itself, first you have the group of people hugging Akira(a sign of compassion) in the mid half of the episode, and then, you have the persecution of Miki/ Miko and the rap guys in the end killing them all in horrible ways(a sign of despair and inhumanity).
The 10th episode was kinda bad, at least for me because it was super rushed, due to the fact that, suddenly, without any explanation Akira have an army full of devilmans and he is the leader, last episode we just know the existence of 2 devilmans Miko and the other afro guy.Buuut, the end sequence of Satan and Akira was amazing and the realization of Ryo that all of the war between devilmans and demons was worthless, because at the end he was alone without his only friend/love is poetic.
