I just finished watching FLCL. I have heard different opinions about it some people like it and some hated it. In my case i liked it a lot. Eventhough there a lot funny scenes it seemed sad and depressing to me, something i didn't expect to feel when i watched the first episode. The song in the backround also helped with that.

Naota is only a kid which is in elementary school, but he always trys to act like an adult. It seems like he feels alone, he carries a bat which make it seem like it he misses his brother, who he respected and looked up to a lot. His dad, who doesn't seem to care and acts like a child. There's also Mamimi, who looks depressed, she doesn't really go to school anymore. We also don't see her going home and it seems her parents don't care anymore about her. Her boyfriend is suppose to be tasuku, naota's brother. But we see that he went to america and he doesn't contact with her anymore, he also got a girlfriend there. In one episode i don't remember which one we see that she's also being bullied. Then there's Haruko, who is supposed to be not human. She is trying to get back something "they took from her". In the last episode we kinda understand that she's trying to get back someone she loves.

In the last episode we see that the iron, which haruko wanted to activate was suppose to straighten the wrinkles. Later it explained that it was referring to the wrinkles of the brain and with straightening the wrinkles, it makes people not able to think and make everyone the same. In addition the smoke restricting everyone from leaving the town and as naota stated it made them think that there's nothing out of the town, and not let anyone change.

In the end mamimi leaves school and the town to be a photographer and she finally founds something she wants to do. Naota returns to his normal life with his friends
