Based on the fact that I still consider myself a person with little experience in the world of anime (don't reach ten the amount of anime I've finished watching), I thought "Angel Beats!" it is a fresh and original proposal, which is grateful because these days there are not qualities that abound in any audiovisual product.
The first few minutes, as is customary in most stories, are somewhat confusing. In fact at first it seems that we are simply facing a fighting anime in a strange and bewildering setting (a high school in the afterlife... yes, no joke), but later it transforms completely and evolves into something much profound and emotional. I dare to say that even with a philosophical background and a well-marked key message. No superficial fighting with no reason.
One of the strong points of the series are the characters. Well, I would like to point out, rather, some of their characters: Kanade, Otonashi and Yuri especially, each with its well-differentiated personality and because they share the protagonism of the story in one way or another according to the moment.
With this I do not mean that the other characters are bad, at all, what happens is that barely gives time to know them. The reality is that the secondary group is truly great, but due to it and apart from the trio I mentioned earlier (and perhaps Hinata and Yui, who have their own secondary history), they remain mere circumstantial and complementary roles.
And it's a shame, because there are characters with a lot of potential that could have been more exploit, like Shiina or TK. I guess by counting only 13 chapters this is an inevitable collateral damage. Precisely for that reason it gives even more rage, since not only the story gave to have extended a little more (sometimes everything is hasty and confused), but also know the past of the characters and why they are there is a resource very interesting and effective, so they could have used it with each and every one of the members of the "SSS" and yet it is almost anecdotal teaching us only the 4-5 main members.
Going back to the strengths, other aspect that "Angel Beats!" stands out is in his music. Both the melodies and the complete songs (and originals) are a very high level and it is noticed that the creators wanted to give importance to this section. Certain is that I was wait more of the opening, I think it should be by far the best of the series in terms of music, but it does not stand out too much about the rest. It does not mean that it is bad, but it does not stand out when in my opinion it should do it being the most representative of an anime in that sense.
I did not want to finish without mentioning that there is a melody during some comic scenes that it remembers and it is similar to the melody that sounded in the "Kid Icarus" of NES when the eggplant magician transformed to Pit in one of them. I do not know if anyone will be able to catch this reference or I am getting too old, but I must to comment.
I want finish this review with two of the morals and teachings I think teach the series: Fight for your dreams before it's too late. And do not be afraid to reinvent yourself and start a new life.

Partiendo de la base de que aún me considero una persona con poco bagaje en el mundo del anime (no llega a la decena la cantidad de animes que he terminado de ver), sí he de decir que "Angel Beats!" me ha parecido una propuesta fresca y original, lo cual es de agradecer porque hoy en día no son cualidades que abunden en cualquier producto audiovisual.
Los primeros minutos, como suele ser habitual en la mayoría de historias, son algo confusos. De hecho al principio parece que estamos simplemente frente a un anime de combates en un escenario extraño y desconcertante (un instituto en el más allá... sí, no es broma), pero más tarde se transforma completamente y evoluciona a algo mucho más profundo y emocional. Me atrevería a decir que incluso con un trasfondo filosófico y una moraleja bien marcada. Nada de luchas superficiales porque sí y sin ninguna razón.
Uno de los puntos fuertes de la serie son los personajes. Bueno, me gustaría puntualizar, más bien algunos de sus personajes: Kanade, Otonashi y Yuri especialmente, cada uno con su personalidad bien diferenciada y porque comparten el protagonismo de la historia de una forma u otra y según el momento.
Con esto no quiero decir que los demás personajes sean malos, para nada, lo que ocurre es que apenas da tiempo a conocerlos. La realidad es que el plantel de secundarios es verdaderamente grande, pero por culpa de ello y exceptuando al trío que he mencionado antes (y quizá a Hinata y Yui, que tienen su propia historia secundaria), se quedan en meros papeles circunstanciales y complementarios.
Y es una pena, porque hay personajes con mucho potencial que se podrían haber exprimido más, como Shiina o TK. Supongo que al contar solo con 13 capítulos esto es un daño colateral inevitable. Precisamente por eso da aún más rabia, ya que no solo la historia daba para haberla alargado un poco más (en ocasiones todo es algo precipitado y confuso), sino que además conocer el pasado de los personajes y el por qué están allí es un recurso muy interesante y efectivo, por lo que podrían haberlo usado con todos y cada uno de los miembros del "Batallón del Más Allá" y sin embargo se queda casi en anécdota enseñándonos solo el de 4-5 miembros principales.
Volviendo a los puntos fuertes, si en otra cosa destaca "Angel Beats!" es en su música. Tanto las melodías como las canciones completas (y originales) de las que hace gala son de un nivel muy alto y se nota que los creadores querían darle importancia a este apartado. Cierto es que del opening esperaba más, creo que debería ser con diferencia lo mejor de la serie en cuanto a música, pero no destaca demasiado sobre lo demás. No quiere decir que sea malo, sino que no sobresale cuando en mi opinión debería hacerlo al ser lo más representativo de un anime en ese sentido.
No quería terminar sin mencionar que hay una melodía durante algunas escenas cómicas que recuerda y es parecidísima a la melodía que sonaba en el "Kid Icarus" de NES cuando el mago berenjena te transformaba en una de ellas. No sé si alguien será capaz de pillar esta referencia o me estoy haciendo demasiado viejo, pero tenía que comentarlo.
Me despido con dos de las moralejas y enseñanzas que pienso que deja la serie: Lucha por tus sueños antes de que sea demasiado tarde. Y no tengas miedo a reinventarte y comenzar una nueva vida.
