Kids on the Slope is one of the more under rated music animes I have seen and I think that is a real shame. The creator of Kids on Slope is the same man behind Space Dandy, Samurai Champloo, and Cowboy Bebop. So if you enjoyed any of those shows I recommend Kids on the Slope. The story does have some cliches but I feel the pacing is fast enough and the relationships between the characters are believable enough that the cliches are not much of an issue. Kids on the Slope can be an endearing story of friendship and actually has a pretty well written romantic subplot.
Of Course the real appeal of Kids on the Slope is the awesome jazz soundtrack and the gorgeous animation. The same person who did the music for Cowboy Bebop, which had one of the most amazing soundtracks in all of anime, also did the soundtrack for Kids on the Slope. It is any jazz lover's dream come true. The animation for all of the music scenes is incredible. The motion of the characters playing their instruments is so realistic, detailed, and smooth that it looks like it could have been live action footage that the animators just drew over. And I played the drums for a couple years.
Kids on the Slope is a must watch for any anime fans that like jazz, and I strongly recommend to fans of musical anime.
