For starters, both manga series involves the Internet as a way of setting up the plot/story. Although for different purposes, it sets off the manga's plot as the main protagonist gets involved with those they've met on the Web.
There is that sense of online theme dealing with identity and social issues. As such, expect plenty of drama that can be humorous, dramatic, and also romantic. (more so in Mel Kano)
