Socially awkward female main characters. Hitoribocchi has cuter awkwardness than WataMote but both are equally funny and enjoyable (if you can handle the occasional sympathy cringe).
Both manga revolve around a socially awkward teenage girl that desperately tries to make friends.

Many people call Hitoribocchi as the more "optimistic WataMote" and there's definitely a reason for that, both have a lonely female protagonist that tries desperately to make friends, from there some of the themes and humour are alike, like the social awkwardness, however that things about the more optimistic version is true specially for the beginning of WataMote, it's obvious that it couldn't go on with the humiliation of Tomoko for much longer so the series became progressively more optimistic and the cast of characters became bigger, so nowadays there's even more in common between the two.
