Both main characters have a very traumatic past and both are have not yet escaped from it. They both are strong, beautiful and intelegente. And in school they pretend they are not.
Bear with me, this is my first recommendation. There is a similar feel between the two of a girl who is trying to hide her true self. They both come from hard background where they had to do diffficult things to survive. There is also conflict between the guys that suround the main character generaly to do with unrequiped, misunderstood or unrealized feelings of a sort.
