Both of these stories deal with girls who don't really care about the world around them, to them it's just there, filled with horrible things. But each of those girls find something great in this world, something precious that they want to protect.
These stories are both very dramatic and touching.
Both stories are about the harsh realities of life. They tell stories about how there are ups in life, but there can be unexpected turns. They emphasize friendship, love, and the pain of loss, but life has to go on.
They are also by the same person.
