Both anime revolve around a kid set out to change the way of the universe and the oppression of humans against a race that is superior to it. Both shows have romance and tradegies alike, as well as unpredictable plotlines if you haven't seen them as of yet. Both are really epic and makes you think about the big picture.
The meeting of Characters are very similar to TTGL. There's mecha and a good storyline. Plus a little romance and epic mecha fighting scenes.
Both are mecha anime featuring battles of epic proportions, both on Earth and in space, as well as multiple main characters with similar roles and personalities. Kira and Simon especially are very similar in both personality and character development- they both start off as kind-hearted, goofy teenage boys who are initially reluctant to fight but do so in order to protect the people they care about. Overtime, they end up broken by the numerous trials they go through, but later recover and become much stronger, more idealistic people. Additionally, Lacus and Nia are both extremely sweet girls with nerves of steel who provide much-needed emotional
