Both shows have veteran soldier characters, similar climate and sense of humour. The setting of both is based on early 20th century.
Like FMA, Golden Kamuy features a large ensemble of varied, charismatic, and likable characters that form many different factions, from heroes to villains to anything in between, and work toward their own goals which causes them to constantly clash, cross paths, join forces, split up, yada yada yada. Being historical fiction, it might not be as fantastical and epic in scale as FMA, but if you value FMA's writing and characters just as much or more than its animation and action, definitely give Golden Kamuy a shot. And seriously, move past the bear. It's not at all representative of most of the show's animation. Also,
