The characters and their development are really similar. The character Yashiro is very similar to Ash Lynx in the way they act and their history. The Clouds Gather has a stronger emphasis on sex as a factor to further relationships while Banana Fish tends to avoid this between the two main characters. Both have a MLM relationship which makes it even more similar. Overall I feel like these are so similar that if you like one you will definitely like the other.
I don't know if its just me but the two characters from The Clouds Gather are extremely similar to the characters from Banana Fish. The main character from The Clouds Gather has an extremely similar back story to the Ash Lynx from Banana Fish. The also both have a deep theme of gang violence. Twittering Birds Never Fly: The Clouds Gather is basically Banana Fish but with more explicit scenes and is in movie form not a weekly airing anime show.
