Hideaki Anno admits that Devilman and Mazinger Z were his biggest influences for Neon Genesis Evangelion. The main protagonist in both anime must fight against evil monsters that are trying to destroy humanity. They both have similar religious and philosophical themes. They are also both action-packed anime as well. If you like one, you may like the other.

In both, the protagonist gets pulled into fighting for humanity as it's being attacked by a different life form. Both anime don't pull punches with the extend of the apocalypse and also dive into the psyche of the characters. The source material for Devilman was in fact one ot the things that inspired Evangelion.

Go Nagai's Devilman manga influenced many titles, including Hideaki Anno's magnum opus. They both feature teenage protagonists, Lovecraftian monsters as well as religious and apocalyptic imagery.

The Devilman manga had a huge influence of Hideaki Anno, and Evangelion borrows several ideas and themes from it. Most notably, both series deal with philosophical themes and religious motifs weaved into an action-packed plot about humanity's battle against monsters.

Taking in count that both series take an approach in the everlasting doubtfulness of the humanity and God/Demons and the attempts to reach the divinity by our own grasp

Similarly deep with themes of angels and the darkness of humanity. Plus it has bloody monster fights and psychedelic themes/visuals. Very similar shows.

Evangelion was actually inspired by the original version of Devilman: Crybaby. It covers similar themes which I feel fans of Eva will really enjoy.

Devilman was a huge influence to NGE fun fact as well as also the supernatural shit high stakes, action, blood as well as massive threat to humanity kind of plot and also lot of biblical shit in it as well too.

Similar themes - animation is different and it's certainly not for everybody. This is the only anime I've found that comes close to NGE.

The OG Devilman manga influenced Neon Genesis Evangelion and the EoE tie-in movie influenced the finale to this particular adaptation. Very unusual dynamic between the two but it works surprisingly well

These two series show the horrors of monster and who the monster truly is. It shows us viewers multiple perspectives through the "monsters" perspective as well as the "human monster" perspective. As such, viewers can't pin the blame on anyone, neither is it easy to find a solution. Both main characters are young men who find themselves blamed for story conflicts and must overcome this. Must. Both Anime will play with the strings of your heart in a similar manner and both Anime will leave you endlessly thinking.

Devilman was one of the principal inspirations for Evangelion and after watching it I must say that those two are really similar. Devilman has devils, while Eva has angels, the two may seem like the complete opposite, but they serve the same purpose, that is destroying humanity. Eva has Shinji and Kaworu while Devilman has Akira and Ryou. Also if you take in consideration end of evangelion, both of their endings are extremely similar, but to avoid further spoilers, I will stop there.

Both series explore the beauty and horror of humanity, and in my opinion, they both portray it brilliantly and uniformly left my jaw left on the floor with their endings and conclusions.

They both start off relatively normal and progressively get darker and darker and explore deep philospohical topics. Really make you question life when you finish them.

The original Devilman and its ending was actually what inspired the End of Evangelion. They're both classics that have extremely abstract and grim themes, which feature psychoanalysis on the main cast of teenagers forced to grow up too soon and save the world.

Hideaki just like many Shonen mangakas were heavily influenced by Devilman, in interviews they even admit to the huge influences/inspiration for Neon Genesis Evangelion. - Both have the light and dark hair characters mc contrast with he deep connection they develop for each other - Similar character dynamic and scenes - Similar character dynamic and scenes - Follow each others endings, will give you the same emptiness - Both explore how the other characters feel apart from each other

both NGE and devilman crybaby are actions about the plight of humanity and how messed up they can be. however devilman crybaby is much more about humanity as a whole and evangelion ends up being more about self hatred/low self worth while still going over humanity as a whole. both also don’t have your basic conclusive happy ending but focus more on ending the message. they also both have a classic 80s animation style and can be pretty trippy.

If you enjoy "Evangelion," then "Devilman Crybaby" may be an interesting choice for you. Both anime have themes related to questions of human identity, existential crisis, and battling monsters. In addition, both anime have dark and atmospheric music that helps underscore the tone and mood of the series. However, "Devilman Crybaby" has its unique features, such as more brutal and violent scenes, as well as brighter and more expressive visual effects. If you love anime with deep content and a strong emotional component, then "Devilman Crybaby" may be a good choice for you, especially if you have already enjoyed "Evangelion."
