Tsuki ga Kirei is, in fact, the first episode of Byousoku 5 Centimeter in the format of the 12 episode series.

Fair amount of similarities. Tsuki ga Kirei is not as sad. - Both have protagonists who fall in love at a young age - Both have pretty backgrounds(Shinkai's artwork is obviously much prettier) - Realistic relationships in both - Both deal with long-distance relationships, Tsuki ga Kirei less so, but it is essentially 5cm/s if Takaki didn't give up.

I got the same vibes from them i would say Tsuki Ga Kirei is the anime version of Byousoku with less depression, both are realistic romances that pretty much focus on that only, the art, OST and theme songs are also great in both

A very similar commitment to realism in character interaction. I'm not sure it's as PRETTY, strictly speaking, but it feels very similar. It's not quite as GOOD either, but it will definitely scratch a similar itch.

A different approach to long distance relationship. Watching both anime will give you the possibility to see the other face of the coin and possibly get a better understanding of both. Coincidentally they have similar art styles and pacing.
