Pumpkin Scissors, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Recommendations
Monolithic expansionist empires, machine-like armies, and super-special units putting out fires in all regions of the empire are very similar motifs in both of these anime.
I am not the first one to say this, but Pumpkin Scissors is a lot like FMA without the alchemy and more emphasis on military action. The overarching plot also deals with a conspiracy though there are some other adventures thrown in as well. The characters are fairly well developed and one might even see parallels between some FMA characters and those in Scissors. The action sequences are quite eye pleasing much of the time. However, the story lines are ultimately very different and neither series can truly be mistaken for the other.
There is a very similar feel to these two. They are set in a world where guns and swords are found alongside one another. Where the protagonists are both haunted by dark mistakes, deeds and events of their pasts. Hidden corruption are a theme in both.
