Ojiisan no Lamp

Both series display themes of moving on from ways of the past. Respecting the past and accepting the future is a big plot point in both.
In "Ojiisan no Lamp" the protagonist is hit with a dilemma as he grows up and sees times changing. This movie is beautifully meaningful, having many great life lessons packed in.
From up on poppy hill displays similar themes of times changing, the characters desperately fighting for old things (in this case an old building) to not simply be forgotten and replaced by new things. "There's no future for people who worship the future, and forget the past."
